if there is no 32 pin connector under dash, on older first gen obd1 you have to find the jumper wire most of the time behind kick panel on passenger side and then jump the terminals together, then count the number of blinks of check eng light. one flash is 1 a long flash is 10 its like morse code, then you have to look it up in a service manual or call dealer.

If your little Isuzu has a Chevrolet V-6, then you will find the G.M. type ALDL in the center console beneath the ash tray/cup holder.
If it is an Isuzu 4-cylinder, I don't think you can use a scanner. I think it requires you to use an analog voltmeter or a Lab Scope to monitor pulses for codes.
