You would be surprised what they can see at 6 weeks. Typically they look for what they call a yolk sack, a small round sack in the womb. The baby won't look like much at that point, but they may be able to pick up the heartbeat via ultrasound. I am 37, pregnant with my 4th and basically had my first ultrasound at 10 weeks. That's great the OB will see you that soon. With my pregnancies, they didn't even want to see you until you reached that 10 week mark and I am on my 3rd OB due to moving.
Best of luck!

Why do you think that might happen. It is Very rare.
Most women describe it as having shooting stabbing pain. If that happens go to the emergency room. Even with the best equipment, it's hard to see a pregnancy that's less than 6 weeks along. If your doctor can't diagnose ectopic pregnancy but can't rule it out, he or she may ask you to return every 2 days to measure your hCG levels. If these levels don't rise as quickly as they should, the doctor will continue to monitor you carefully until 6 weeks, when an ultrasound can be used.
I was 38 when I had my daughter. Yes, I did have plenty of problems but in the end everything turned out. I had at least 1 sonogram a week from 17 weeks on. You would never know she was 9 weeks early. Stress is a big contributor to many problems so stop worrying. Whatever will be, will be.
Good luck.

You can try to call around if you would like. I had my first sonogram around 4 and a half weeks. The odds that you have an ectopic pregnancy is low but if you think that you do then you should see a doctor immediately.

Congratulations! Most OB's take their patients in at 6-8 weeks. The first sonogram is somewhere around 20 weeks unless there is a cause for concern. Good luck.

Stop worrying new mom.......six weeks is way too early to have a sonagram. I did not have my first sonogram until my 2nd trimester. Ectopic pregnancies are worrisome however until you have conclusive evidence do not stress youself. The stress could cause other complications....just sit back and enjoy the 9 amazing months. by the way congratulations

they would not be able to tell it was ectopic until you were 6 weeks anyway so try not to worry
i had my first scan (sonogram) at 9 weeks and then a main one at 20 weeks
it is really unlikely baby is ectopic - try and enjoy your pregnancy

my first was at 3 1/2 months. If it were ectopic you would probably feel it by now. They can see how far along you really might be and if it is in your uterus or tubes, one or more babies, etc.

My ob won't see you unless you're 10 weeks pregnant. He does an ultrasound at that visit. I saw my daughters heart, 2 nubs for arms and 2 nubs for legs. A small circular blob for a head and a larger circular blob for her body.

I never got a sonogram. with all three of my babies. The doctor said it wasn't necessary as long as I felt fine...My kids are healthy, smart and athletic, so I guess he was right!
