I've never heard of them giving you a shot to numb your pelvis during a normal papsmear.

No, I have never had my pelvis numbed prior to an exam. Just relax and think about something else.

I have never had it numbed, what was the exam for... a pap test? Depending on what was being done it could have been necessary but I wouldn't think it would be for an annual exam

It is more painful to go through the injections than to just do the exam, I would recommend not unless there is a need for more than just a pap or general exam such as biopsies and even those maybe be less painful than the injections.

No... You must have a problem down there if he has to numb you just to get inside with a finger or small instruments. I would tear you in half.....lol.

well it depends on how comfortable you feel...
if you dont mind the feeling of forceps being inserted into you to open you up, then NO, a shot shouldnt be needed...

No it isn't. Do you have some special problem? If not, I would question it.
And Jazz, they are speculums, not forceps - and they come in sizes, because we do.
