Overview
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This update process will install Version 97 firmware into your PM3. Version 97 is the most current firmware for the PM3 and offers the following features:
General release version of the Fish Game
Additional information and help
Bug fixes, including the rare "Date Advance" issue known in some prior firmware versions when logging workouts or updating firmware
Menu modifications (The Fish Game is now available from the Main Menu)
Facilitates Macintosh compatibility for future firmware updates. This means that Mac users must use a PC to upgrade their PM3 to Version 97, but once on Version 97, Mac users can use their Macs for future firmware updates.
If you are running an earlier version of firmware, Concept2 recommends updating your PM3 to Version 97. See Checking Your Firmware Version to determine which version of firmware your PM3 is running.

Note for Mac Users: Upgrading to Version 97 Firmware requires the use of a PC. If you are a Mac user and want to upgrade to Version 97, you will need to connect your PM3 to a PC to perform the upgrade. Once your PM3 is running Version 97 Firmware, you will be able to download and run future firmware updates using your Mac (no PC necessary).

System Requirements

The minimum system requirements for using this software are as follows:
PC computer running Windows 98se, Me, 2000, XP Pro, or XP Home
Working USB connection to the PM3

Save or Run the PM3 Firmware Update

Note to RowPro and Concept2 Logbook users: After updating to V97 firmware for your PM3, you must update to RowPro/Concept2 Logbook Version 2.003. You can get Version 2.003 Logbook or RowPro from www.digitalrowing.com. .exe format

To Download and Run this Setup Now

Shut down any other PM3 applications (RowPro, for example) you have running.
Connect your PM3 to your PC via the USB cable that came with your PM3. Your computer may prompt you for information regarding the connection. Disconnect any other USB devices. See the PM3 Firmware Update Troubleshooting section if you have trouble with this step.
Click the Save or Run button. The File Download window appears.
On the File Download window, click the Open button. The InstallShield Wizard will appear to guide you through the setup and installation.
Wait for the update to finish. Do not disconnect the PM3 until you see the "Set Language" screen.
Saving the Setup to Your Hard Drive for Later Installation

Saving the setup for later installation would be the method of choice if:

You want to save the program on a laptop and take the computer to the PM3 to upgrade
You have a number of PM3s to upgrade
Your internet PC is not the PC you will use to do the upgrade
Click the Save or Run button. The File Download window will appear.
On the File Download window, click the Save button.
On the Save As window, navigate to the folder in which you would like to save the setup.exe and click Save. Note: The exe filename is setup097.exe.
When you are ready to install the setup program, shut down any other PM3 applications (RowPro, for example) you have running.
Connect your PM3 to your PC via the USB cable that came with your PM3. Your computer may prompt you for information regarding the connection. Disconnect any other USB devices.
Locate the setup097.exe file on your hard drive (same location as where you saved the file in step 3; if you downloaded the .zip version of the file, the file name is setup097.zip, and you will need to unzip it to access the .exe).
Double-click the .exe file to begin installation. The InstallShield Wizard will appear to guide you through the setup and installation.
Wait for the update to finish. Do no disconnect the PM3 until you see the "Set Language" screen.
PM3 Firmware Update Troubleshooting

If you have attempted the update more than once and are encountering problems, please reset the PM3 and try the update again. Reset the PM3 as follows:
Simultaneously press and hold the Change Units button, as well as the 1st and 5th gray buttons on the right.
While holding these buttons, either pinhole reset the monitor using a paper clip and the pinhole on the back of the monitor or remove and replace one of the monitor batteries.
Release the buttons.
If you have performed the reset and are still encountering problems with the update, please note the PM3 screen contents (error messages, etc.) and contact Concept2 for assistance (rowing@concept2.com or 800.245.5676).
USB Information

If this is the first time you have attached your PM3 to this computer, the USB driver needs to be installed:

Connect the PM3 to your computer and wait for Windows to recognize the PM3. Windows may require you to click Next several times to complete the driver installation. Some versions of Windows may not tell you that it has been installed properly.
Windows may also prompt you for the Windows Operating System CD. You must complete this process before continuing.
If Windows states that it cannot install the driver, or gives some error message, you will not be able to complete the installation. Concept2 may be able to help, but it may require that you obtain support from Microsoft or your computer vendor.
Encountering Errors

If an error is encountered after programming is complete, you can recover the PM3 by trying one or more of the following:

Remove all other USB devices (printers, scanners, hubs, and so on) while updating your PM3.
Try connecting your PM3 to a different USB port. Concept2 recommends use of a USB port on the rear of your computer and does not recommend using a hub.
Try the update on another computer.
