Who cares. I love wearing black but I'm not a goth. I really couldn't care a less what people labelled me as. Don't worry what anybody says about you, be comfortable in whatever you wear and with yourself.

You sound like a metaller to me.
What is emotional rock, though???
From an image point of view, since there are so many goths/metallers/punks around who dress in the same kind of way, I'm not sure it's really accurate to describe them as being "individual". Surely any one of these "looks" is just as much a uniform as any other.....I have a friend who completely does her own thing. She wears crazy colours together, searches jumble sales and vintage shops for different styles of clothing and has even been known to make her own. The result is truely unique.
If you want to be different, be different, don't follow the crowd.

The sort of people that will call you "goth" or whatever generally are people you have no need to listen to, as the chances are they're small-minded and petty, and find it difficult to actually understand that differences in society are good and healthy.
Wearing what you want to wear, and not just copying everyone else, is a sign that you actually think about life and your place within it as opposed to making sure you do what the herd does, which takes very little mental effort.

Don't let it bother you.Your identity is about what you are not what you wear, Its about the attitude. I know people who are hardcore punks, they listen to hardcore punk bands, they play in hardcore punk bands, they have punk views, but they don't wear bondage trousers or have mohawks. On the other hand i have met people wearing bondage trousers and sporting a mohawk, who wouldn't know a punk band from take that. I was heavily into the seattle grunge scene (the first time around) when i was in my teens, i wore jumpers and jeans with holes in and tartan shirts with converse shoes and long hair, i got called a hippy....punk...goth...weirdo...geek...metal head etc etc, It didnt put me up or down, i still wear what i like, listen to what i like, play in the style of band that i like, and do what i like. People think everyting has a label, but surley thats a narrow-minded view. You cant pigeon hole people, some people like nirvana (grunge), the dead kennedys (punk), and the red hot chili peppers (rock/funk) ..that would make them a grungeypunkrockfunker regardless of what they wear. Make up your own identity/name for yourself from all the styles of music you like then when someone calls you a goth just say "no im a....grungeypunkrockfunker" or whatever...then call them a ned (non.educated.delinquent)...its usually only neds who call passers by stuff like goth or whatever.

the goth part is about what's inside of you, not what you wear. i get labelled goth/emo myself. i am kind of emo inside i suppose but i dont really dress like one. and i am gothic inside also even though i enjoy wearing bright neon colours aswell as the stereotypical black that i'm meant to wear.

People don't really give a lot of thought to stereo-typing, they just say the first thing that comes into their little heads. Don't worry yourself about other peoples opinions.
Clear your mind, look at yourself in a full length mirror and say am I content to look like this or would I be happier if I changed my image. And if you are content then don't change just be content.
All that matters is your opinion of yourself.

Your right you don't have to change who you are, if your happy being yourself then don't worry what other people say about you. At the end of the day its who you want to be that counts, not what others might think.
