There are many reasons why some people find it very hard to admit that they're wrong. One person I know is really smart so he's probably used to being right all the the time. But when he's wrong it's something that he's just not used to. With some people, pride gets in the way of their judgement. I've even talked to someone who admitted to me that she was wrong but didn't want to tell the person she was having the argument with because she wanted to keep her pride. Arguments can sometimes be like a battle. Both sides want to win. Some people just refuse to lose. In some cases, people truly believe that they are right. It's not that they are in denial but for their own reasons they think they are right. So that's it!

Pride? Hell no! Stop giving that answer. It's social conditioning!
Pride is something you don't want to lose. Pride is a great thing. There is nothing that interferes with pride when you say "I was wrong", you can be proud of saying "I was wrong".
People don't like to admit that they were wrong because of their competitive nature.
You ever have a competitive friend, or be competitive yourself? You ever meet a tenacious person? How about somebody who is ruthless in their desires?
They don't admit they were wrong, they will admit that they could do better though. Some people erase the word "wrong" from their dictionary... like Einstein, and Plato, and Keppler, and Darwin. They all reject the word, want to know what cliche they insert?
"Failure is a learning process"
If you admit that you are wrong. If you want somebody desperately to admit they were wrong, than YOU are wrong. You can agree to disagree. That is perfectly fine. Just don't make a habit of trying to get people to stomp on their own self confidence by letting them tell you they are wrong.
I hope you feel pain when somebody says to you "sorry" for making a joke. How about the shy people out there? They aren't competitive, and they admit they are wrong ALL the time. They are full of competitive nature to survive.... ugh
I won't be able to convince you.
Best of luck getting over YOUR short comings. It's not the other person that is the problem in your situation. It is you, who can't accept that there is competition to be the best all around the world. People will admit when they were beaten, but they will come with a "but the war is not over"....
I would hate to see somebody say "I was wrong about everything in my life" and have them end it. Suicide... that's the word. When somebody who is hyper competitive in life, it is suicide to say "I was wrong" instead of saying "I can do better".

Some wont admit they are wrong b/c their ego won't let them. Some might call it an illness some may think it's vanity but everyone wants to be perfect. Admitting anything especially wrong is the hardest to do.

I can definitely answer this one because all of the males in my family will never admit they are wrong even if you prove them. People like that are stubborn and like to believe they are wrong even though they are proved wrong, regardless of the fact it makes them look like total idiots. ( to the males in my family, I still love ya more than anything )

Two things - they really think they're right (even if everyone knows they're wrong)
- they are full of pride

It sets you free and you don't have to justify everything little thing you say. And, besides, it really does feel good to do the right thing.
