After a crab has shed its shell to grow a larger one but before the new shell has hardened, the crab is called "soft shell." In the U.S. the blue crab is the one usually eaten in the soft-shell state.

Any crab is soft shelled after it molts. And in Louisiana, they are really yummy when fried!!

I don't think there are any.
Unless they have some sort of disease...the crab should have a hard shell!

when a crab moults it shell it becomes what fishermen call a peeler crab. doesnt matter about the species.
