Her insurance doesn't cover all of it..only 1/3rd. We live in los angeles and need ways to come up with the rest of the money. The family has set up a fund for the money and have only raised $200 so far. They need $3500. Any ideas or resources that we can use?

First of all, please accept my condolences for your mother in law's sad demise. I pray to God to give u the strength to bear this loss...!!

You asked about ways to raise the money for her funeral..May I suggest you approach your local church?? They may be able to help you with the funds thru means along the lines of tithing or something like that. Am sorry I am quite ignorant abt Christian customs..but as I have heard that churches raise funds by the tithing practise..am sure they can also spare some funds thru such a method, for the likes of people like you. So perhaps you need to approach your local parish?? At the same time, you may also approach the local corporator-something like mayor or sherriff to help you out.

You may sell off or mortgage something u have of value and take a loan, from one of the pawn shops,I think..whatever u call such people..I dont remember what they are called..Be sure you approach a licensed pawn shop only...avoid the seedy looking ones....Dont go to loan sharks though..they can be quite deadly.

Take a personal loan from the bank as a last option,if nothing else works!!

Good luck to you!

When we buried my father in law in May this year, we also had that problem so in lieu of flowers, we requested that donations be made to his wife to cover medical and funeral expenses. It helped to pay off a lot that way since the family and friends all donated.

After the fact.... maybe sale some of his personal belongings such as tools, cars, clothes, or do a yard sale. I am sure he wouldn't hold it against anyone if this were to be done for his remaining bills.

My condolences to you and the family for your loss.

Alot of times, churches have funds set up for bereavements and people that are having a hard time financially with the death of a loved one. Maybe you can check into one of those and see if they can offer you assistance. Good luck and sorry to hear of your loss...

Set up a checking account. In the funeral announcement that you post in the news paper, request any donations be made in that account. People in my town do it all the time. It lets people know that you need money without being rude.

Why do you expect others to pay your family's bill? Make payments, get a second job, sell her stuff, pay your own damn bills. Thats what I have to do! I wouldn't have the nerve to ask anyone else to pay bills for me. Now if it were a child needing hospital care, thats different!

My siblings and I had to bury our parents (at the same time) when we were very young adults, and it would have SHAMED us to make as blatant a plea as this for funds for their funerals -- we bucked up, got the loans, and buried our parents with dignity. We then paid that loan, paid for our college costs, and entered the Military, and went on to successful lives.

That amount($200) would just about cover her cremation if you furnished the urn.
