There certainly is public speaking. You will need to introduce yourself to the parents of the class at the beginning of the year. Sometimes there will be other reasons to speak with the parents of the class (ie. field trip / camp / State test) You may also be asked to speak in front of the staff at a meeting, but by the time this happens you will know most of them, and it will not be as stressful as speaking in front of strangers. You will be required to work in small groups and may be asked to present information that your group discovered.

There are many other opportunities to speak in front of groups, but you are not required to.

Although the first year may be difficult, after teaching for a while, you will be comfortable getting up in front of groups of 20 to 30, even if they are adults. Remember, you are the expert.

There sure is. As a teacher for 8 years, I had the pleasure of addressing parents 2 nights a year (open house and curriculum night), the PTA once a year, the Board of Ed once a year, and my fellow teachers and teacher assistants (staff of 50) each month for 2 years. The good news is that even a person who detests public speaking (me) can make it work. The bad news is that my count is probably on the low side, since many schools are trying to agressively get parents back into the schools, which increases the amount teachers must speak before them.
