Its not easy.

One way is to work for a company that has a branch in the US and work your way up to a transfer.

What skills do you have? What would you have to offer a US company?
You could apply to companies in the US but they are unlikely to want to pay for a visa for you if there are people in the US with the same skills.

Do you have a degree? If not you might struggle.

You can go to the US for 3 months on a visa waiver, you can't work but you could go out there to look for work. I would recommend you try Orlando Florida where there are lots of Brits who own their own companies and may be interested in sponsoring you if you have the right skills.

Unfortunately its true that the easiest way is to marry an American citizen, but there are other ways although they are extremely hard at the moment (since 9/11 immigration has been a nightmare in the US)

There are a couple of other things that could work for you. You could apply to study in the US, but that takes a lot of money.

There is a visa called the J1, which is a trainee visa, but again you need a business that will/can sponsor you.

If you get a job offer make sure you get an L1 visa, these can lead you to permanant residence in the US, most others are only temporary visas and you will have to leave at the end of the term.

Marrying out there is the best option, however you still go through a hell of a lot of hastle and questioning.
