If you take your old computers, working or not, to a local computer resale store, they'll give you cash to take them off your hand for parts. I've taken quite a few and cashed in from $25-$100 for my old junk! Most all places will take them off your hands. Call around and see what they offer in your area.. might be worth the trip.. :D Good luck!

take it to a recycling development in your area.
Recycle Old Computers
Dell computers is making it easier for you to get rid that old computer. Just surf over to the Online Dell Recycling Center to sign up and Dell will arrange to have someone come to your home or office and pick up your old computer and monitor. The old computer will then be donated to charity or recycled, depending on its age and your choice. Participation in the program will cost the end user only $15 for any equipment under fifty pounds that is packed in one box.
Old computers and old monitors should never be dumped in the garbage since they contain many toxic chemicals that can leach into the ground and contaminate the soil. With over 250 million computers poised to become obsolete by 2005, this new Dell recycling program is being well-received by all, especially environmentalists. The Dell program adds an ease of use that is certain to be appreciated. Previous programs cost more and make the donator pack up the computer and cart it over to the post office and/or donation drop-off-point.
I am constantly being asked what to do with old computers, and so I especially welcome this new program. Fifteen dollars is a small price to pay for a cleaner planet.

Determine whether or not your local solid waste department has a computer recycling program: call the city. If not, computer resellers (2nd hand) often will take old machines, often for free, sometimes for a fee. In many communities it is illegal to dispose of old computers, particularly monitors, in the trash.

In my city sometimes they have it where you bring in electronics and dispose them, yes it costs like $50. Or try calling some recylcing center? I dont know but the dump might take it for a small fee and then i believe they try to sell it sometimes.

Donate them to goodwill and see if someone can use them before they are disposed of. Try donation before disposal sometimes people can fix things or canabalize it for parts. I have seen people make them into other things.

if you are buying a new computer then most of the computer manufactures will have an exchange program for your old computer. If not you can always give your old computer to some local charity organisation.

Japan has a tech dump, where everyone dumps their old electronics. It's a pretty good idea.
Anyhow, if you can't use the computer, and no one you know wants it, just bring it to some scrapyard that deals with electronics.

Around here they charge for hazardous waste disposal. Then once or twice a year they make it free. You might check in your area.
