I agree that the Princeton Review ("PR") publication is very helpful - it's also somewhat entertaining which helps you to remember the tips. If you do not have a lot of time to study before retaking the exam, the approach I recommend is:

Week 1: Study the PR test-taking tips closely (what I mean is focus on *how* to take the test, not math skills).

First Weekend: Take a practice exam - quantitative only - and do the analysis the PR provides to see how you are doing in various areas of math.

Week 2-4: Study the areas where you are getting 50-75% correct; use the PR tips for this type of math. Keep going until you get your percentage up to 85% - 100%.

Focus on these areas because if you can get 50-75% it means you already kind of get it and just need to refine what you already know. Odds are higher that you will be able to perform on these sections under the pressure of the real exam because the knowledge base is already there.

If your time is short do not attempt to learn new math unless you do so poorly on the practice that you cannot raise your score working by only working on your 50-75% correct sections. If you do that poorly, you should consider hiring a tutor.

You might think you should work with the areas where you got none correct, but it will tak a lot more time to become consistent and under pressure you are more likely to choke. Become familiar with the types of questions that are your weakest and when you encounter them on the real exam, use the PR tips and tricks (non-math skills), and move on.

Another big warning: If you are happy with your verbal score DO NOT waste time studying more verbal - it's a trap. You feel like you are working toward something, but really you are enjoying proving to yourself how good you are at the verbal section.

You CAN get a great score - best wishes!

Get the Official GMAT Study Guide and the Quantitative Guide (both full of questions). Also, goto www.mba.com and spend lots of time knowing each question on that software (PowerPrep) by heart. Keep a journal as you do questions and write each one you miss with it's answer--review this log daily.

Once you can do some more, do a test (in the GMAT book or PowerPrep...but save 1 PowerPrep) and see how much better you are. When you are ready, schedule for the test again. Do the last PowerPrep test to see how you 'probably' will do overall. As long as you are 50 points above what you need---go for it!

Go Get Them,

Take a look at the GMAT website, and get one of the preparation books. I'd reccommend the Princeton Review book, and if there is a Princeton Review center near you, go in and take the preparation class. They help a lot, especially for the quantitative.
