We teach Internet at a large senior retirement community and know the problems you have. Amazon.com has a number of teaching books (key words: "seniors learning the computer". They are step by step and well illustrated. Get the USED copies at low prices and walk her thru the first stages. Fear of damage is the biggest problem. Then Memory ...sadly the main problem.

Keep her password entry to a minimum. Like no password to just turn on computer.

Put the icons she will use on the desktop in the order she would use them.

Have her wite down on a note pad the order of what you do and how to do it along with passwords.

Re-assure her she will remember how to do it all eventually. Have her get like a yahoo addy so she can use that browser and yahoo for e-mail and surfing.

Biggest things is to make it as few steps as possible untill she gets the hang of it.

Don't overload her with data & jargon. Keep it simple. Start her off doing a simple web search or just typing a email to a friend or family member. It's going to take patients on both of your parts.

Write detailed instructions and do screen captures for her to see and show her at the same time, learning is always best when having her doing while you tell her. And the key is repitition.
