I've been trying to figure out the same thing and all I can figure out is that before anyone will talk to you YOU MUST HAVE a praxis test score or an up to date teaching license from your state in order to start finding a job in NC. My TX State Teaching lic. expired Jan 31, 2006, and I can't find my NTE scores, old Praxis, don't want to take the new Praxis, have taught ESOL since 1971, have an MA in it and can't even get an interview. grrrrrrrrr. Good luck. If you have any luck, please email me. I live near Asheville, where are you moving to?

NY has stronger credentialing requirements than NC, but only for traditionally certified folks, which means the reciprocity is there. You will have to take a class when you get here (found only in NC and required for NC) but in all likelihood your Praxis scores are high enough, etc.

For lateral entry or emergency certified people, NC is only going to take a chance with our own home-grown varieties, so they probably will not even accept your lateral entry experiences or education, and will instead make sure you prove yourself here, in their program.

Check with your local school board & see if they can refer you to someone who could help answer that for you. Also you might want to go to a search engine, like Yahoo, & type in teaching qualifcations for NC . Also ask your local school board, about transferable qualities. Another idea is to contact the school system where y ou plan to teach & ask them. Good luck.

You might be able to make a lateral entry into NC and then take the additional certifications you need. Go to www.ncgov.com and search for Dept. of Education.
