How many people who are a member of a small religious group do you know who are unemployed? I know a few people in such groups, and all of them have had good jobs straight out of university. This seems just a little too convenient, am I being paranoid? I know it's not a part of the application process, but people who know people will help each other, especially, it would seem, in church groups. I know other people who are not in church groups who have all had to fight and struggle their way through university, unemployment, training for work schemes, etc to get where they are today. Is this just coincidence?

I know this sort of thing goes on outside of church groups too, and I don't think that's at all fair either.

It may not be fair, but it's a fact of life. There are plenty of universities here where, if you're a graduate, you're definitely part of an "old boy network" for life. This is particularly true of military schools. Basically, just accept it and get around it. Nothing will stop it because it's been going on for a long time.

You're right, its not fair, but if you are benefitting from the situation, its very difficult to criticise it. At the end of the day, what can you do? You'll just waste your time and get stressed out if you obsess about it. If you need to get a job, have a look at what you've got going for you and really play those ace cards. If it looks like you've been dealt a bad hand, you gotta play a different game. Ok, the poker metaphor is getting a little weird. What I mean is if you are applying for a job and it looks like you don't have a lot to offer, you might be better off applying for a different job.

When you are picking a job, you have to consider what you would be best at and what you would enjoy.

Fair or not, that is a part of life. I don't think you can make it illegal for somebody to give a job to another because they are in the same network. It is ultimately their choice who gets the job but they will probably lose out by not employing the best person for the job.

Who ever said life was fair.

welcome to the real world.
When they have a choice, people tend to choose others who fit in with their own percieved ideas and beliefs. It's a fact. tough
