Never before 12 mo. If you're breastfeeding, there's no rush to intro cow's milk even after 12 mo since breastmilk offers better nutrtion anyway (the WHO now recomends that all babies recieve breastmilk until they are at least 2 years of age). Even formula is better than cow's milk for the average 12 mo (due mostly to it's iron content), but it's very expensive so most parents are quite eggar to get thier baby's drinking something cheaper.

Before switching to cow's milk, make sure your child is eating regular meals and a wide variety of solid foods, expecally good sources of iron and vitamin C (vitamin C aids in iron absorption). Cow's milk interferes with the absorption of iron and can lead to anemia if a person drinks too much; be sure to limit your todler to no more than 16-24 oz in 24 hours. You may want to consider subtituting yogurt for some or all of your child's milk intake, since yogurt does not tend to interfere with iron absorption, is easier to digetst, and contains active bacterial cultures that promote overall health.

My son is 16 mo and does not drink cow's milk. He nurses at least 6-8 times a day and also eats full fat yogurt and cheese.

you shouldn't give cows milk as a main drink before your child is a year old as it doesn't contain everything it needs so up until a year you should still either breast feed or give formula.
my son is just over a year and i still give him formula for morning and evening bottle so he get the right nutrients, etc and then he get cows milk on his cereal.

don't forget though if you are introducing cows milk to a child it should be full fat

I started my children on cow's milk when they were 2 years old. Before two they were strictly on breast milk and I did not even bother to give them plain water. My sons are 6' tall now and healthy.

At 12 months he should be eating enough other foods to get the vitamins that are in the formula so he can be put on regular whole milk until he is 2. Then he should be put on 2% milk.

He will also be prescribed a multi vitamin at the age of 12 months.

You do not start your child on whole milk until he is 12 months old. Some Doctors will tell you to introduce very small amounts of milk once they hit 11 months so you do not start them on it all at once.

I would talk to your sons Doctor to make sure that would be o.k. to do with him.

They say after the age of one , but I started my 3 children around 10 - 11 months and they were fine. Just make sure it is whole milk!

after his one year check up with the Dr. They will tell you if your sons system is healthy enough to handle cow milk.

do you research on the cow milk though. its not as healthy as you would think. Rice and Soy milk might proove to be a better choice.

My sons Dr told me to start him on cows milk the day he turned one. I did and with no complications. Some Dr's will tell you to wean your baby off of formula by mixing half and half. Ask your Dr. Good Luck.
