That would be air conditioning. I don't know if you've ever sat in a really hot car on a really hot day, or gotten up off someone's plastic covered couch in a house that has no airconditioning, or tried to sleep in 90% humidity conditions with 110 overnight temperatures, but engaging in any of the above, would surely lead you to the same conclusion as me, that air conditioning is the best invention of the 20th Century.

I was thinking fire, but we didn't really invent that. Probably the microscope-- the ability to see and work with things on a very small scale has done fantastic things for us both biologically and technologically.
