not always, it's just a guesstimate....they can be off by a pound

right now I've been told my baby is 7 lbs 14 oz. by ultrasonography....which is totally not what I am expecting! I'm expecting a lot more! LOL

good luck!

No, it's just an estimate. I was told my baby weighed about 9 lbs. at my check-up that was one week before my due date. When my daughter was born she only weighed 7 lbs. But at the same time, I had retained a lot of fluid the week before my due date, so the doctor put me in the hospital on my due date to try to get the fluid off, so I would start having contractions, and be able to have my baby. I ended up delivering 3 days later.

Hardly ever.

Don't be frightened by numbers. They are giving you an indication of possible issues. For example, there are certain things that will impact a baby's birth weight. Nutrition during pregnancy; smoking; size of parents etc. Be sure you are following the advice of your team.

BTW - When you are having the baby, make sure you have an advocate there who can fight for you; you will be focused on laboring and not be all in your head.

P.S. Why are you asking this question?

no. first of all, the sonogram is less than accurate when it comes to predicting weight. Second, your baby's weight fluctuates wildly. During the last half of the third trimester, they gain about 1/2 pound a week. Every baby is different though, so it can be very hard to predict how big your baby will be.

They have no real idea they just have to give an est. They told me I was having a 7 lb baby and he was 8/8. They told my cousin she was having a 8 lb baby and he was only 6/8.

I was told my daughter was going to be big, roughly around the 8 pound mark, however when she came along she was 6 pounds 8 ounces, so, no, just an estimate!

NO they are usually way off when they guess the weight they told me that i was going to have a 7lb baby the day i went in to have him i ended up having a 10lb 4oz baby

my friend was told that she was going to have a 9lb baby so they were going to induce her early she ended up having a7lb 2oz baby

i dont know why they even bother it seems pointless to me and to be so far off

Nope- it's only an estimate. Thay can't take into consideration if baby's going to have a heavy bone structure or something like that.

I think it may depend on if you are seeing a Specialist v a Tech. I saw a Tech and they gave an innacurate weight, however I went into premature labor, so they weighed me the day before I had him and gave me the exact weight.
