Researchers say that real sleep — measured by changes in electrical brain activity — occurs only in warm-blooded animals with well-developed forebrains. But you can find something that looks like sleep, which manifests itself as a sustained lack of movement, in creatures as ancient and lowly as the cockroach. Roaches have regular active and inactive periods; if you force a roach to increase its active time, it will respond by increasing its periods of inactivity, just as a higher animal will respond to a period of sleep deprivation by snoozing longer than usual.

If it's upside-down, it's dead or dying! Who knows for sure, but it's unlikely they have the brain power to dream or would need to.

Supposedly, the Japanese did some experiments where they removed the antennae and inserted tiny wires into the bases, then attached them to tiny transceivers with cameras glued to their backs. Then they controlled them with charges to turn left or right or goose them into moving and explored the insides of pipes and walls with them! Not much brain power there.
