Geesh, what are people doing in their answers. You got a lot of garbage above (some right, some wrong, but nothing to help you), so I thought I'd take a stab and see if I could help.

Look, in looking at your postings, it's clear you need to figure out factoring first, then you can get into other stuff.

So here's what you gotta do. (And this stuff isn't as bad as you think it is, either. Trust me).

In any binomial, you want to set it up first.

So in your case you have 14x^2-20x+6
and you want to factor it into
(ax + y) (bx + z)

well, a X b have to = 14
and y x z have to = 6

So, since 14 = 2 x 7, either a=7 or b =7.
2 will be the other #.

And because 6 = 2 X 3, then either y=2 and z = 3 or vice versa, right?

Great!

(Hint! If the middle is negative, then and our last number is positive (+6), then both factors are negative!) So in this case -3 and -2 are our factors

So let's put them in and see what gives you the -20 you need in the middle.

If we do
(2x - 3) (7x - 2) , what do we get?

2x(7x) + 2x (-2) + -3(7x) + -3 (-2)
14x^2 - 4 x - 21x +6
or 14x^2 -25x + 6 (close, but not quite)

If that doesn't work out, just try the other set. Just swap the -2 and -3.

(2x - 2) (7x - 3), is that better?

2x7x + 2x (-3) + -2(7x) + -2 (-3)
14x^2 - 6 x - 14x +6
or 14x^2 -20x + 6

Yes!

Now since there's still a 2 hanging out, you gotta pull that out, but that's cake now that you did the hard part!

(2x - 2) (7x - 3) ==> 2(x - 1) (7x - 3)

That's all there is to it.

Let me know if I can help further!

14x^2 - 20x +6
To make it simpler, factor out the 2 first, since all your coefficients are even numbers.
2 (7x^2 - 10x + 3)
2 (7x - 3)(x - 1)

14x^2-20x+6
(2x-2)+(7x-3)
x=1
x=3/7

14x^2 -20x +6
(2x-2) + (7x-3)
2x times -3 plus -2 times 7x
-6x plus -14x
-20x
I hope that helps
Or
(2x-2) + (7x-3)
2x times -3 = -6x
-2 times 7x = -14x
-6x plus -14x = -20x

Pick up the textbook, open it up, now read!
Most text books will walk you through the process...follow the examples...substitute your equation in, and just take the time to read!
