Trial/quad bikes with no land to ride on legitamately so the tear across private land tearing it up causing nuisance, "Go ped" mini scooters when they know they can't be riden on public roads, yet have nowhere else to ride. Air rifles with nowhere to fire them? Isn't it like buying an aeroplane when you don't have access to a hangar or runway?

If someone has local facilities for such activities then this question is irrelevant!

No I am not saying poor people don't have the right to try and be happy, but there is a limit. If someone wants to be happy riding round your rosebush in your garden without your permission should they be allowed? What if they want to, and are happy to burgle someones house? They're doing what they wanna do!

There are lots of things I would like [to do] such as those "Go ped" mini scooters I mentioned, but i would have nowhere safe or legal to ride it, so I haven't got one. And anyway, Miss Samaritan, you don't know my financial status, so don't cast aspersions.

Are people just being selfish, ignoring the costs to others?

Your quite right, they are morons with no acceptance of responsibility whatsoever. When someone gets injured by a moron his defence is "well the shop sold it to me" so they have some responsibility too !

I understand what your are saying and do not intend to make light of it by my reply. We actually have a centre locally that has the facilities for Quad and trial bikes - either take your own or hire. My husband actually had a half hour hire and drive of a tank! On the same track that the tank uses, they also have off-road 4X4 driving - again, bring your own or hire - so it's pretty good.
BUT......in your question I can see my husband - and He will just buy things because the price is right! We have two toasters, two deep fryers, about 11 radios, 3 CD players in the house (not counting the fact that we can play them on the PC), 2 TV's in the same room - and 2 DVD players attached to only one of the TV's. The list is endless! And yes, he does have an air rifle and an air pistol - which I have never seen him use either of.
I think that I would have altered your question slightly and have asked - Why do people buy things that they don't use?

because we live in an age controlled by the media. if the media tells people that they want something or that something is good to have, then people go and buy it. possessions are seen as status symbols. the more you have, the better person you are.

apparently.
