I am anglo saxon and have had a few people tell me that Jamen sounds like an African American's name. No, I'm not a racists, but I don't want people to hear my son's name and think he is black. You know, black people name their kids things like Shaniqua and what not and you can assume when you hear that they are black. Same thing when you hear the name Pedro, you assume he is Hispanic.

We know we want to go with Cole. I'm mainly asking about Jamen.

We are considering Cole Alexander if not Jamen Cole.

I greatly prefer Cole Alexander instead. Seeing Jamen, I read it phonetically as Jam-in. Irregardless of what culture it does or doesn't sound like, I just don't care for the game. Or Cole James like some others have said. Could always nickname him CJ.

The name does have an African American sound to it. Is Cole the middle name or the last name? Jamen Smith doesn't sound black, nor does Jamen McKenzie.

But I like the name. Good luck with that.

Not too fond of Jamen. How about James or Jayden? Both of those are pretty similar. You could always make Jamen the midddle name. I like Cole. It's simple yet nice. I like Jayden Cole better than Jamen Cole but it's your baby. Name him whatever you want :-)

Jamen does sound black. I prefer James, definitely. Love Cole & the spelling variations like Kol, Kohl.

I'm going to ignore the racial overtones of your post and suggest James- it's a very anglo name and there was even a King James of England. James is a good solid name and you can always call him Jamie as a nickname... Jamen just strikes me as awkward.

As much as I think Jamen is a nice, creative and unique name, I think it sounds too much like 'jammin'. Other than that, I think it is a nice name. Sort of a twist on James or Jamie.

To answer your question, I don't necessarily think it sounds like an African American name. I'd use it if you like it.

Very cute name, but if I had to guess, I would say the little guy was black. Nothing wrong with that at all...=)

it does sound that way, I'm really sorry if I offend anyone, it is not meant that way, I love Cole though.
