that happened to a family member of mine...

What happened with her is that she was in her 40's, a little overweight to begin with....so being in her 40's she thought that she was either menopausal, or that she had cancer...

She never went to the doctor because she was afraid that it would be cancer (she just didn't want to know...I guess would rather have died than had the death sentence given to her)
As the "tumour" grew, she was more and more scared to go...

Eventually she was complaining of horrible stomach cramping one night....and decided it was time to go to the hospital. To her surprise, they asked her how far along she was....she was floored by that question cuz as far as she knew, she was dying of cancer!! Nope, sorry, it's a baby!!!

Hope others' stories are helpful in clearing this up for you!

you know I have seen this on many talk shows too. I really don't belive it. I am now on my third pregnancy, and it is very obvious once you get to a certin point that you are pregnant. not so much a large stomach as many women stay small. but the fact that there is a another person inside you. I'd say after 24 + weeks if you do not notice something moving around and kicking you inside. then you are not quite normal. I mean really most babies are born more than 6lbs, so no matter how over weight a person is you still would have to feel that movement inside of you.

I had always thought that there is no way you can be pregnant and not know it until giving birth. However, my cousin went to the hospital on July 5, 2001 with severe stomach pain and left 2 days later with a baby boy. No one, not even her boyfriend knew she was pregnant. In her case, they had been having sex, but decided that it was the right thing to be abstinate until they got married. So, my cousin only thought she was gaining weight (they both work at a pizza place and eat a lot of pizza) and that she was just having a lot of heart burn from her diet and worrying so much about their financial situation. Plus, she was a little depressed because she was living in California and most of her family lives in Michigan. Her little guy, Matthew, was the stillest baby I have ever seen. He would lay so still and quiet for hours at a time - she had to wake him up to eat since he would sleep so much and he wasn't gaining weight. The doctor said he was probably like that in utero as well and that is why she really never felt movement. Then, to make the point a little clearer, I experienced something similar myself. I was 38, married 20 years, been on The Pill for 11 years, and our kids were 18, 15, and 12 when I began having severe pain in my stomach whenever I ate. I mentioned this to my doc at my yearly physical and she diagnoised Irritable Bowel Syndrome with the promise of a prescription that would make it better. However, when she did my pelvic exam she was quite puzzled to say that my cervix felt as though I was pregnant. Neither she nor I thought that could possibly be, but she had me pee in a cup to be sure. I nearly fell off the exam table naked when she came back with a POSITIVE for pregnancy result. Still not believing it, she listened for a fetal heartbeat and there it was clear as a bell. Still having periods (because of The Pill), no idea as to conception, an ultrasound revealed I was 17 weeks!!! I had been pregnant 3 times before and I didn't know I was pregnant!! No morning sickness, I was losing weight because I wasn't eating, no breast tenderness, not one single symptom that I had experienced before. I also had developed Gestational Diabetes. By the way, we had seen my cousin about 4 months before she gave birth and my daughter had spent 4 days visiting her 3 months before and none of us noticed anything that would indicate she was possibly pregnant.

Look, my grandmother was a nurse for over 30+ years and has told me that just because you get your period DOES NOT MEAN that you are not pregnant! You can have your period up to eight months of pregnancy. That is why when some girls who think they just gain a "little" weight (which, I actually have seen women who look like they can be, at least, 2 months were actually 7), they still get their period and they just assume that they can't be pregnant.
There are also some people out there who are already sizable in their girth and they assume that it is just fat weight as supposed to baby weight. It does happen. There are people out there who still looks the same, their bodies really did not change and, bam, they are surprised that they are having a bundle of joy!
Sometimes fact is stanger than fiction.

its called in some cases total ignorance and in others denial.
My mother was a nurse in the country side 40 years ago. Had a patient who had not gotten her period since she got married, 10 years earlier, and had 9 children, and was pregnant about to pop again when my mother met her. She was obese and did not look pregnant, just fat. After giving birth, she breastfed babies, so she did not get her period, and at the first cycle of ovulation, bam, she was pregnant again. So she claimed she never knew if she was pregnant until she was about to give birth!

I've never figured that one out myself...I've had three kids and with the morning sickness, sore boobs, big belly and the baby kicking me all the time, to just name a few things, I don't know how any woman could not possibly know she is not pregnant! I do know of a young woman who kept having her periods and did not find out she was pregnant until she was about 7 months along because she got very sick and went to the hospital and was told the news...that she was very far along. She never had any symptoms up until that time. Very strange!!!

A friend of mine in High School did not know she was pregnant until she was eight months along. She thought that she was just gaining a little weight. Believe me, she did not look pregnant at all. And according to her she still had her period. It wasn't until she started having Braxton Hicks contractions that she found out she was pregnant.

I don't know from personal experience but some woman have very irregular or no periods at all. Weird, I know but I've known people who didn't know they were pregnant until they were way farther along. Also, some people are on "the shot" and they don't get their period at all when they are on that type of birth control.

I dont know how these girls dont know!! Im 4 months along with my first, and it just wiggles around inside of me! I dont believe that bull of "well I'm a bigger girl, and just didn't know", 'cause I'm a bigger girl with most of my weight in my tummy all of my life, and you can see changes in the shape of your stomach, mine is alot rounder now instead of flabby.
My boyfriend's x was pregnant with his first, and claimed she had no idea she was pregnant till 6 months. I dont buy it. She claimed the kicks were gas, the morning sickness was just something bad she ate, the weight gain was her being bloated. Then one day she took a test 'cause she hadn't had her period in a while, and bam, she is pregnant and she was just shocked!! What an idiot!
