Okay, are you ready? Don't laugh. This is how I learned to type, and I type 105 wpm. ;-)
First, read this web page:
http://www.powertyping.com/qwerty.html
Now that you have the basics, find a book you want to read. If you feel that typing numbers quickly is desirable, find a book with plenty of them.
Now run a word processor (If you run Windows, WordPad will do), and just start typing the book into it. Do a little every day--however much you have patience for. Your first goal is to be able to type without looking at the keyboard. Once you've mastered that, just keep practicing and you'll get faster and faster, while enjoying a book at the same time. =)

First thing -- memorize the keyboard. Notice that the keys "F" and "J" have little raised marks on them so you can align your index fingers on them. Next, don't look down at the keyboard while typing. Look at the screen, instead. If you make a mistake, and you will, again try to fix it knowing where the keys are in your memory. If this fails then look down to see where you lost it. This constant feedback will eventually get you where you want to be.
Another method requires the help of a friend. They say a letter out loud, and you have to type it. The faster you get the faster they should call out another letter. When you get good at this, move on to words being called out and see how fast you can type those.
Good Luck...

Most of the answers are good.
But your key board is just like type writer key board, no body uses type writer any more. But typing skills would give you an advantage and speed of data entry in your computer.
Just a observation:
Old computers were using punched cards, the card puncher's key boards were alphabetic. Data entry people use to punch cards on them, to be put through the computer by computer operators. Programmer would fill out program sheets and hand them to card punchers. A printer would print out the out put, which was read and interpreted by programmers.
