Just curious. I see a lot of people pick as "Best" answer for themselves not the most seemingly sound or expert advice, but something that lets them take the easy way out, and started to wonder about this.

I think alot of this is shown in the different categories of Yahoo Answers. It seems as those in the religion/politics areas only want verification of their own ideas. Those in the housecleaning/gardening section actually want answers to legitimate "real world" problems. And then there are those of us in this type of section and as for myself, I want to gain insight into others ideas and perhaps to learn something to help in my journey and maybe to make me have to think. :)

Are you trying to confirm a preceoceived idea that most people just want to get confirmation for a preconceived idea? *grin* Well, you're probably right... I don't think that what goes on here is any different from any other way people seek answers to questions. How often do people ask for advice and then disregard it because it wasn't what they wanted to hear?

Sometimes people just want to see if the view of Jo Average is different from what the experts and professionals think. Sometimes they couldn't find the information they wanted on Google or wherever (C'mon, people, we're all capable to using a search engine ourselves -- please don't answer a question with a collection of links to web pages without giving your own input too), and sometimes the question is more of a survey: "Who thinks J. G. Betancourt is a liar, a thief, and a bad writer?" That sort of thing...

I have not asked a question on Yahoo that wasn't a legitimate question -- I really wanted new information, not just a confirmation of what I already knew -- but I can't say how many people that holds true for.

It all depends. Most of the time I ask to gain wisdom. Sometimes I ask to give others wisdom. What exactly do you mean by a 'preconceived' notion anyhow? Someone once said that thinking is hard, that's why so few people do it. Opinions are like armpits: everyone has at least one, and they often stink just as bad. When you have an idea, do you want to be proven wrong, or do you hope that what you are thinking is accurate? Or don't you care, as long as it maes you feel good? In that case, the questions as well as the answers are rather pointless, don't you think?

It depends. I may just want to see other's views on the subject. so I'd do B but If it's a question that I have no clue about. I take the one with the best information and nicest answer.
Good question

Both, sometimes I really have no clue about the answer, but then sometimes I want to know how many other people have the same thoughts and opinions.

I haven't asked any questions but would assume that both scenarios are valid.
