Dial-Up: Slowest availible right now, phone line

DSL: Faster than dial-up, still uses phone line, but you can talk on the line, even while your on the internet

Cable: Much faster, goes through cable company instead, requires external modem

When i say fast i am referring to loading web pages, streaming, and downloading/uploading

DSL and Cable are "always on" connections which means you never need to sign off, unless you turn your computer off, and you can make phone calls while signed on the internet. Dial-Up is becomming less and less common, many computers dont even come with a dial-up modem anymore. I suggest at least moving to DSL if you have Dial-Up, but read the fine print, sometimes they will require a one or maybe two year contract, so think it through carefully. High speed internet is worth it.

If you are considering this product you should know that DSL service is very sensitive to wire distance from the central office. The DSL providers used to not allow connection if you were too far away. But since they started loosing so much business to cable internet providers, they arbitrarily extended the allowed distance. This can be a real problem if the service turns out to suck and you have a contract forcing you to use the bad service for a year or more. Check with your neighbors who have high speed DSL connections, if their service is poor, you can not expect any better.

It's great. Having dial up vs DSL or broadband is like having an 8 track instead of a CD

you get what you pay for.

Consider they are not offering you something they could sell for more.
They are hoping to make a small amount on alot of signups, seeing eventually the increased traffic will warrant an upsurge of advertising clients.

Suffice it to say it is lightening and thunder better than dial-up.

but lags behind other options.

If you are on dial-up. Go for it.

I love it, it's great because people can go on wirelessly instead of using the pc. For home use it is fast enough.

if you are referring to sbc yahoo dsl, its pretty good for the price. the comcast commercials refer to it as having "turtle slow downloads" but we switched from dial up and i think its quite speedy.
