My scientific friends, I have a question about the basic water cycle.

As long as there is water and the sun, the water cycle should be existant shouldn't it? That meaning, that it should evaporate, condense and precipitate and continue doing so?

This question is relating to the Bible, where it states that it did not rain on the earth before The Great Flood, but there was water there before in lakes and streams.

Is it possible to have water, but no water cycle?

One must some to understand that there are many scientific anomalies in the Bible. The basic fact is that all the books in the Bible have been written by men. When humans see divine acts, beyond explanation or logic, they believe it to be divine and their fascination makes them exaggerate the truth, just as we tend to do when we try to prove a point. The Old Testament is meant to establish the foundation of faith. Without faith, life would become meaningless as there would be no purpose to our existence in this universe if we were merely to live and then fade away into nothingness. Religion was founded to give a sense of meaning and understanding to life.

So to answer your question,it is theoretically possible to have water without a water cycle, as the suns temperature is not constant at all parts of the earth's surface and hence water may exist as a liquid in some regions and as a gas in certain others and never change. The state in which water exists will depend on the surface temperature and other factors. But to prevent any liquid water from existing on Earth would be impossible.

Possible. Water arrived at the earth in several ways. One among them is commets crashing on earth. That water could form a lake or flowing from the lake to wherever it can go.

But dont believe whatever bible says. Bible is the Science of BC. very primitive.

The Bible, especially the Old Testament, is meant not to be taken literally, but rather as a series of stories that provide the reader with the basis of faith in God. There are many, many, many scientific pitfalls in the entirety of the Bible, if you were to read it all and analyze it thoroughly. That is not the point of religion. As a devout Catholic, I feel comfortable saying such.
