History. In the early 1970's the Niners had some good teams with John Brodie throwing to Gene Washington and a good defense, but Dallas beat them in the playoffs two or three years straight in heartbreaking fashion.

Then there was "The Catch." The classic NFC Championship Game which marked the beginning of the 49er Dynasty and the beginning of the end of the Landry Dynasty in Dallas.

In the mid 1990's Jimmy Johnson-Troy AIkman, Emmit Smith & Michael Irivn battled George Siefert-Steve Young, Ricky Watters & Jerry Rice in three NFC Championship Games with Dallas winning twice. The team that won the playoff game went on to win the Super Bowl.

That makes for a great rivalry and really the Cowbays are so dman hateable.

It's been that way since the early seventies. The Cowboys knocked the Niners out of the playoffs several times and San Fran couldn't get over that hump until The Catch. After that they went on their Championship run and were able to capture four. Then the Cowboys finally came back up and started kicking your a** again. Some of the greatest playoff games are between the Niners and the Cowboys. Too bad they're always in the NFC championship and not the Superbowl. As for you Niner fan, just so you don't feel left out, we hate your a sses too. Dale don't forget that Pittsburgh now has five too.

Because the Cowboys (along with every other team in the NFL, and possibly some top college teams) are better than you. Hey, I hate the Cowboys as well (I'm an Eagles fan) but I just follow every aspect of the game, and to be blunt: Your team sucks

It's a great rivalry, at least until recently, when the bottom fell out of the Niners organization. They had some great matchups, especially in the 80's and early 90's.

Becuz everytime SF PD pulls a Cadillac over full of doped out, drunken, louts...it's always the Dallas secondary!!!

Niners rock, Cowboys drink jagermeister...
which by the way...is a crappy schnaps here in germany sold as a digestive and it amazes Germans how ignorant people can be to think it's any kind of party favor...but the Cowboys think it's the bomb.

Probably stemming from your rivalry in the early '90s. Great games, those were. Too bad the Niners never could've played the Bills in a Super Bowl. Greatest matchup that never was.

Everybody hates the Cowboys. not just the niner fans.
It all started because they call themselves America's Team. Then they were dominating but arrogant in the 70's-that hatred was just jealousy but it lingers.
Since then the run of jailbirds hasn't helped their image.
