the intensity of his passion... a good musician doesn't need to be the best, he just does what he loves to do: play music. Plus, a good musician is versatile. He doesn't compare genres, because he knows (and he ought to, anyway) that music is still music whatever form it takes. He's able to appreciate each type of music without comparing.
Oh, and it also takes a lot of determination to be a good musician. Determination allows that musician to have the talent... and with it, the skill.
So yeah... at least, this is what i think. 0_0

Both. It depends on your type of music, but in rock and roll, you have to be able to listen to a song and figure it out. In anything, it is helpful to recognize intervals. Reading music obviously never hurts and only makes the process easier. I used to give bass guitar lessons and Rule No. 1 was, "Thou shalt learn to read music." If someoen did nto want to do this, I simply could not teach them. Otherwise, they spent too much time trying to memorize the lesson. Reading music gives you a way to write down the lesson so you can memorize it later, if you want. If you are a workign musician, reading music will open doors that simply would not even exist if you do not read music.

Thorough understanding of music, love of music, a passion, and respect for the great form of art, which can really carry you thro' gentle paces to realms of joy, ecstacy and spirituality. A little talent and gift from Above will help a great deal. lot of patience and perseverance, and listening ability, and, humility in later years of development as a musician, will make you a greeat musician!
