The skin regrew around the ridge(the ring of the head) of his penis. He is 3 1/2 mo. old now. Has this happened to anyone else? I know they have to recut it to fix it but I'm worried that it will cause some type of psychological damage.

The skin can not regrow, but he could have a penile adhesion and it is adhered there. It isn't uncommon and can give the penis the appearance of having the skin regrow or stretch.. my advice is to leave it alone. They do not have to recut anything to 'fix' this as he is not broken. As he gets older and that grows bigger it will retract on its own and he will look just like every other circd guy.

DO NOT LET ANY DR RIP HIS SKIN BACK, can damage him and it is VERY painful. plus will not help anything, will reattach cause you are only making a fresh wound. DO some reading on the Cirp website please please please before letting anyone touch him. No vaseline on a penis either if he ever is hurt, you use pure non petroeum jelly to coat it. good luck

I don't agree with circumsizion and this is one of the reasons why.

BUT don't feel bad because it's too late now- come on people we can't roll time back because it's not helping her feel better and can't change anything. Talk with the doctor- if they feel it's best to fix it now then get it done now before he gets any older. Yes it will hurt, just like it did when he was 10 days old but will not cause psychological damage. If you don't get it fixed it may though. Keep in mind that it might be fine without anything.

My little brother's got botched & was never fixed. He had a lot of problems.

Circumcision is a travesty. It is genital mutilation. I always get a kick out of people who have it done, and then when there are complications they want help. Pathetic. Why did you do it in the first place? Did you just go along w/ the Dr.? Why? Are you an Orthodox Jew? Then there are all of those idiots who tell you it doesn't hurt. Then why do they use pain killers? MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM.......kinda makes think a little huh? Your poor baby. If your excuse becomes later that you didn't know any better, which I am sure you will, then who did know any better? Is it not your responsibility? Did you have a c-section to? Are you at least breastfeeding him?

Not having seen it, I can't really tell you what's happened.

Circumcision used to be done for cleanliness reasons -- it was easy for the foreskin to prevent the the penis from being sufficiently cleaned, so infections and the like were common.

(And for Biblical Israel, it was a way to distinguish them from pagan nations and a symbol for their being "bound to Jehovah," in addition to the cleanliness issue.)

Nowadays, in Western culture, our standards of cleanliness are excellent enough in comparison to centuries ago that circumcision isn't really necessary anymore. Numbers-wise, there's not really a significant difference. People still also debate whether any sensitivity is lost when the foreskin is removed, thus diminishing future sexual enjoyment.

So as long as the foreskin is retractable and there's no sign of infection or disease, it's probably best to just keep it clean and not worry about it if possible. (If it really does bother you, get a pediatrician's advice.)

I worried about that happening to my son when he was circumcised. I kept an eye on it though (because around 2-3 months I thought I saw what you're describing). It looks perfectly normal now. If you are really concerned, just bring it up at your next pediatrician visit. He or she should be able to explain what can be done, and the effects of having it done versus not having it done. Trust me, you're not the only mom who has had this concern, and I'm sure you won't be the last!!

As for those who've made comments about circumcision: I think it's a personal decision to be made between the mother and father, made by the mother or father, and it doesn't matter what decision they make--it's THEIR decision. Personally, I've never seen an un-circumcised penis, and since my husband is circumcised I wanted my son to be as well. Please don't leave comments for this poor scared mother criticizing her decisions. We don't criticize you...

Good luck to you, and congratulations on your baby boy!!

At 3 months there will be no psyc damage. I promis. And if the skin isn't hurting him then he may not need another prodecure.

My first son circ had to probs. My sec son's circ wasn't cut very short and he still has a little extra skin. I just keep him extra special clean and I think its fine.

Circumcision is not a requirement, it's a cultural thing. The only reason it's done by doctors in America is because culture says that if you don't it gets dirty. Well, you know, it was there in the first place, so there's a reason for it. Don't worry about it.

I would leave it alone there is no harm and I doubt it grew back. Maybe it stretched or other things were cold and it shrunk. There really is no medical reason to circumsize

My son is 2 now and the same happened to him. Every checkup that he went to until 18 months, the Dr. would "rip" it back and tell us to keep Vasiline on it. It is still not corrected in his case, but this may work for you.

It is only momentary discomfort for him, not any worse than a shot, less actually.
