It is very commendable that you wish to help out by giving blood. However, according to the American Red Cross website, you may not give blood while pregnant and should wait until 6 weeks postpartum to do so. I have given 30 pints of blood over the years. It is a good feeling to be able to do something for someone else. It is easy to do and requires so little time and sacrifice.

In emergencies, you can donate blood. Now-a-days autologous transfusion is coming up in a big way, when you donate your blood which is to be used by you alone at a later date, say for example if a complicated caesarian delivery is expected in a prenancy. However, this should be done in during the early days of pregnancy, so that your body is given enough time to recover from the loss.

no sorry, they won't allow you to. Your body needs that extra blood for the baby & you.
What happens is the baby takes priority in your body...so the nutrients, oxygen, etc get given to the baby "before" you (not really before you but baby is priority in your body now).
So, if you get rid of that extra blood your body is producing, it's VERY unhealthy for both you & the baby.
hope that helps!

PS. good to see there are extra caring people out there like you though :) that's great of you to think of others needing blood! :) But wait til your doctor clears you after birth for donation.

If you did try it then they would turn you away at the door. They wouldn't allow it. Your heart is in the right place. Bless you for thinking of others!!
It is also not recommended to give blood when you are breastfeeding.

I wouldn't because if you're being medicated, that might transfer to some other people and that wouldn't really help them out. I would wait until pregnancy was over because your baby needs your blood right now.

No. At least not where I live -they make you sign that you're not pregnant, but you should ask them.
If you give blood, it can make you faint, feel very dizzy, or pass out, since your body is working overtime to begin with.
