Technoly that satellite is going to research a planet, now since Pluto is no longer a planet, that satellite serves no purpose.

it still serves a good purpose it can bring back images that have never been seen by man kind. we are moving out of the solar system and we can probably get a great image of what can be the "tenth planet".

IMHO,
nope. technically pluto's a dwarf planet, and sitll quite interesting because of it's erratic orbit, and therefore worth watching.
and anyway, what better way to watch out for aliens than by watching the last "planet" in our solar system? ;P
in anycase if they thought that Pluto was not worth watching, the satellite can always be turned to watch other "heavenly bodies"

Then how come we sent probes to research asteroids, comets, and that such? Pluto is still going to be visited by new horisions. Just because its no planet anymore (sadly), doesnt mean the mission is canceled.

What a silly idea. Pluto will still be there and worth looking at no matter what we call it. And the New Horizons mission will look at some other Kuiper Belt objects too.

Seriously do you think they'd do that just because it's status as a planet changed? There's been a large amount interest in Ceres and plans for missions to study it despite it, until recently, being classed as a mere asteroid.

Um, no. People need to realize that just because Pluto was reclassified doesn't mean it ceases to exist. It is still worth study and you can't possible think NASA would call off New Horizons now. That would be dumb.

Actually its even an even more valuable mission now since we now know there are dozens of Pluto sized objects. This mission will shed light on dozens of objects not just one.
