Get him a truck that he can move around that has flashing lights, sounds, etc. Get a train table...the train can be electric, or you can get one where you set up the track any way you want and then there's magnetic trains. A simple board game could work too. Good luck! I'm sure he'll love anything you find. Toys R Us is a good place to get things. Even if you don't know what you're looking for, you can browse and you'll find lots of things. Happy Birthday to your son!!

If you want to know the gift of a life time that your son will talk about forever just keep reading. My four year old nephew still brags about his "special cars." If he likes legos too, there are these type of Duplos cars that you put together and they make different cool sounds depending on how you put them together (i think the last place i saw them was at toys r us). Lots of fun. Swords are always a good source of imaginative fun. Last but not least, transformers. I am 24 now and I still play with my transformers. Happy Birthday. Hope it's a good one and that this helps.

best thing at that age is a fish. I came across an awesome fishtank (1 gallon fits anywhere) Comes with a hood and light, gravel a little plant and filter for 9.99! Really cute. Really easy to put together and all you need is a 25c goldfish or betta fish and some food and you are set. Kids love pets and a fish is the easiest thing ever. Oh yeah they sell it at Petsmart.com for 9.99 or at the store for 13 bucks.

A small set of drums and two weeks at Grandma's house.
My son always liked getting costumes and props. He had a cape, Voltron gear, Star Wars light saber, pirate stuff, Batman stuff, animal costumes...whatever I could make or find. He liked dressing up and pretending.

How about some large paper and various colors of finger paint? Let him create and then pick out his favorite. Then frame it and hang it in a prominent part of your home. It will be a treasure for a lifetime... and you have given him the wonderful gift of self-expression.

Set of little plastic dinosaurs, or wooden building blocks. Boys that age tend to gravitate towards them.
