Isn't it strange that a country that didn't afford it's own black citizens basic human rights was allowed to pontificate on the world stage about the crimes of others?

Even stranger that 60 years later the Americans have still not signed up to the United Nations convention on Human Rights, which is why they're being allowed to get away with imprisoning people in Guantanamo. In contravention of U.N. Resolutions the Americans still produce large quantities of chemical and biological weapons - weapons absolutely forbidden by the United Nations and America condemned Saddam Hussain for using against the Kurds. Isn't this the height of hypocrisy???

None of the prosecuting countries has a perfect record on human rights. However, it would be fatuous to argue that the crimes perpetrated against black people in the USA are equivalent to the atrocities of the concentration camps, in which Germany (with the collaboration of certain groups in other nations) set about wiping an entire race of people off the face of the earth. If you watched the programme last night, you'll have seen some of the footage.
If only perfect people and perfect nations were allowed to criticise others, no one would be able to challenge anyone else's behaviour. Then you'd have anarchy. If you saw someone doing something wrong, I'm sure you would tell them off or try to stop them - even though you are not perfect yourself. Why should America have behaved any differently after WWII?

That is hypocrisy and racism on its part. The USA only acted in the Nuremburg trials because the victims of the holocaust were mainly of Caucasian origin. At that time, the USA was trying to portray this image of being a free nation with equal rights for all. What the USA didn't say to the world was you could only have those rights if you were of European descent. Black Americans were not seen as worthy citizens and therefore were not granted equal rights. It seems ironic but it is more hypocrisy and racism on America's part. What needed to happen back in those days is this: Yes the Nazi's needed to be brought to justice for the Holocaust. That is a given. With that said, they were not the only ones guilty of human rights violations. The USA had human rights violations too.

What's also odd is that one of the things the judges were proud of, what they saw as the reason for Nuremberg, was not the prosecution of individual Nazis, but the establishing of the legal precedent that a government, a state, could be guilty, and that aggressive war is a crime, prosecutable by law.

Hmmn. Say 'Irony' anyone?

It was America, Britain and Allied nations that conducted the Nuremberg trials. And what about the fact that Churchill didnt even want them to have a trial he just wanted them to be executed straight away, no trial necessary!

if you have a problem with the way that previous generations breached human rights you shouldn't muddy the waters by mixing it up with the nazis, who deserved everything they got...and more besides
