So I visited Memphis a few times and it seems really ghetto for the most part. I visited some of the suburbs and those were very plastic, whitebread places with a lot of vacuous pretty people. The rest of the city, however, seemed pretty gank...so many ghetto people walking around, driving badly with stolen cars and talking as loud as possible in ghetto fashion. It seems like Memphis is either full of suburban types who waste their lives being pretty, having two spoiled kids and not doing anything important (unless enrolling their kids in church sports teams and pretending to be Christian is important) or really ghetto people who have like 10 kids, eat fried chicken and live off of welfare.

Is Memphis Ghetto? I lived there 10 years and Yes many parts are Ghetto. However, just because some parts are doesn't mean it is all ghetto. So much of what you see from the main roads is the old parts and therefore...the worst looking. I lived in Bartlett/Cordova Area and LOVED IT. I made many of my lifetime friends there. I miss living there because of them and there being places to go and things to do......I just like having my space here better (1000 acres). There are a lot of really good people there. Yes I know there is a lot of bad there too. I'm not blind and neither are the rest of you. Every other city I have been to has the same thing...parts that are ghetto. You just have to know where you need to go to find what area you like to be in .....it took me a year to discover all the little areas I liked. I can't imagine you thinking you have seen it ALL in just a few short visits.

You visited Memphis a FEW times and you've decided it's ghetto? What made you go back if it was so bad? I've been to Memphis and I think it's pretty much like many other cities. We personally had a great time when we visited there, found lots of fun things to do and met some nice people. Rather than criticize and insult, why not just find somewhere else to go? I'm sure there's somewhere that would meet your "standards," although it's hard to imagine where that might be.

I don't want to offend anybody but I will expose the truth of what a number of people that I worked with said about Memphis. I worked with Cricket Wireless and out of all the states we dealt with, over 200 Cricket agents hated to deal with the people from Memphis. It was like they were the laughing stock of the cell phone community. We were handing everything on a silver platter for Memphis customers but they were always trying to scam Cricket. Finally we could not activate phones for the customers of Memphis anymore and Cricket started referring every Memphis customer back to a full service cricket store to activate additional cellphones to their existing accounts. We caught every scam that these customers tried to pull and it was ridiculous, is this how memphis people do business ? Do they have to always be scandalous to conduct business or even purchase something? If this is true then you must be ghetto.

At 41-years-old I've living in Mphs all my life. I am far from plastic and am a true Christian, but I do live in the Suburbs. One problem with Memphis is that the tourist places are those older historical spots where the demographic is poor. If you leave the airport via a main road instead of the expressway, you will see it. If you visit Graceland, you will see it. If you venture east or southeast (hopefully you didn't) of Beale St., you will see it. We do have a lot of problems in this city, but we are far from ghetto.

I've lived in Memphis my entire life and you are so very much wrong. Just visiting will never give you any kind of idea of how any one city is in any form or fashion.
