The mother's an idiot. A child that age should not be out in the supermarket. God knows what it can catch, besides the unequal temperatures in the supermarket.

She had nine months notice that this kid was coming. She couldn't go shopping BEFORE she left for the hospital?

Absolutely. I had a home birth.I was having breakfast at my favorite diner to satisfy a hot italian sassage and egg craving . I was breathing in rythum with the ebb and flow of the contractions. Humored by the looks on other people's faces. It seemed like I was dilated to 4 for the longest time. When I finally got with the program and actually realized all these people in my house werent leaving until a baby is born, and wait a minute it's coming out of where! .After the marathon I could not believe the midwife asked me to push again. You have got to be kidding and when I saw the placenta I couldnt believe that was in there too. . The midwifes had put on a pot of home made chicken soup and I wanted to rest. Not the little one though the light was too bright or something. I got use to it though and in short time we were insync and in love. We were out and about the next day. Just for brief run to the store. I could hear people comment ..Is that a doll? Look how beautiful, Look at the perfection of her little fingers. It was great. But just a little physical exertion at a time.U dont want to hemmorage. Women have various degree of pain tollerence. I could take my daughter anywhere. I would place a shawl over her laying on my shoulder. Not a peep. unless she was hungry or soiled.. Oh those sweet nectarian days.

Why can't it be right? If the mother and child are both physically well enough to be out in public, it's their choice. There are no rules on how long a woman must say at home following the birth of a baby.

Maybe the baby was a bit early and the mother needed to buy some essential items that she had not managed to get before the birth? Maybe she had tried breastfeeding but it wasn't working out and had decided to buy infant formula instead? Maybe she just felt physically and emotionally ready to take her baby out. No one has the right to judge a mother's decision as to when she is ready.

In the UK you can be out of hospital within 6 HOURS of giving birth regardless of whether it's your first child or you're an experienced parent.

Why cant it be? I had both my last two children at home and if i had wanted to could of taken them out immediately afterwards, though was too busy enjoying my baby moon to do so!

And yes to some that answered questions, you dont have to give birth in a hospital, and you can go out when you like! Though others are right in saying that the mother should be resting, though she may have just gone in for a few bits, i hope so anyway as she shouldnt be lifting anything too heavy for a little while.

Why can't it be right? Not every woman thinks they need to lie around after giving birth. When my 2nd child was born I was at a toys R us 24 hours later buying a present for a birthday party I went to the same day. I was tired but not debilitated.

If all is well, hospitals will release a woman and baby within 24 hours. I had mine at 8 AM and left the next day at 9 AM. It was my choice of course...I could have stayed another day but I knew I would be more comfortable at home.

Wow, some people haven't got a clue. I've had friends go in one day and be out early the next after having their babies. Hospitals are not required to hold a woman for 48 hours. They will if there is reason but if not then they'll let them go right away. A girl I worked with went in late at night and was out by lunch the next day.

I was in the hospital for 72 hours both times but that was because I had to have c-sections.

Not all births occur at the hspital. If she gave birth at a birthing center, they have different policies than hospitals do. Many have a maximum stay of 24 hours, and you can leave whenever you feel ready. With a home birth of course you can do whatever you like on your own schedule. Many women feel great after giving birth, and they are avtive afterwards.
Yes, birth can be an exhausting experience, but that has become such a stereotype in our culture that people think its true for everyone. The birth process and experience of it is very individual.
I took my children everywhere with me, even as brand new infants. I nursed them so they really had to be with me at all times and its best for bonding if you are in close contact most of the time with your baby.

Why not, I did the same with two of mine and want a third. You can't protect them forever, I'm still waiting for my son to get the chicken pocks and only pray that my daughter doesn't get it since she's only 2 months. I had my first at 7:50 something at night and went shopping at wal-mart at 1:30 in the afternoon. I had the chicken pocks the day my sister arrived and was only told to stay away from her until my antibiotics kicked in. A newborn will catch a cold anyway its normal.

Good grief people, hospitals do NOT keep you for 24 or 48 hours, they may try to persuade you to stay longer so they can milk more money out of you but there is no law requiring them to keep you. And not everyone takes pain meds. I had my last child at home with no meds or anything and didn't even take so much as a tylenol afterwards as a matter of fact 3 hours after her birth I wanted breakfast REALLY bad so we went up the street to Braums (it was empty) and had breakfast. Giving birth does not mean every other aspect of life stops for you. She may have had other children that needed to eat or perhaps she was on her way home and stopped to get something that she'd need at home (food, pain relief, pads?)

Sure it can. Especially if you have other kids to feed and take care of.

When I had my daughter I was at walmart getting pictures the next day about 14 hours later. With my son I was up and in the shower right after he was born and out and about later that day.

No big deal.

And mom2be- they don't usually keep you that long at the hospital, more like 24 hrs or less. And LOTS of babies are not born in hospitals!

Some women don't mind at all and are out the next day. I knew someone that only had a small belly, wore size 2 clothes and had a baby in the evening and was in my office looking for her paycheck the next morning at 10 AM. she was just fine, and the baby weight - Just over 7 lbs.
