A slave mentality can be passed from generation just like beliefs of white supremacy, black power, or any other kind of racism. Why weren't the truths about slavery spelled out in high school social studies class how slave masters raped black women and dismembered black men...degraded them and then expected them to have respect for themselves...always considered inferior but just get over it!?! I don't understand. Jewish people always get sympathy about the holocust..no one ever tells them to just get over it...wtf!

My family just so happens to be high class...we all went to college and we are all successful, but that doesn't change ANYTHING!!!!!!! If I were poor would it matter more or less?

You have hit on a very good point, it is called rewriting history and that has a name...relativism. It is a very dangerous ideal in our culture today which leaves out important facts, totally changes facts or partially changes facts.

You need to know that many books on history were written by white men who didn't want to give credit to minorities, women and anyone else they deemed "unworthy". Look at who gets primo treatment...people like Ronald Reagan, one of the most inept presidents we've had in recent years, yet he is treated like some sort of a god. It should be interesting to see how George W. will be treated in history books. You can bet your first born that he will look even better than Reagan.

Those That Choose To Say, "Get Over It", Are The Ones That Choose To Wear Blindfolds, and Act As If It Never Happened!!
It's Like Asking Someone That Was Molested, "Oh Well, Just Get Over It".
It Never Goes Away!!

Slavery Still Lives In Today's Society, It Just Goes By A Different Name.
We Are Kept In Low Class Jobs Making Chump Change, Babysitting The White Mans Children, Opening Their Doors, Driving Their Cars!!
A Black Person Walks Into A High Class Store And Nobody Asks.."Can I Help you"? But Let A White Person Walk In And The Circle Like Vultures Around A Carcass!!
This Is Something That In No ones Lifetime Will End!

So "Get Over It"? I Think Not!!

The one who said 1861?????? Slavery ended in 1865, you ignorance is apparent.

People fail as usual to realize that blacks didn't have to be slaves to be oppressed. Over 90% of the oppression toward the "Black Race" was not from slave owners. the one who say blacks were free from slavery by Lincoln. Lincoln didn't want to free blacks and he didn't. He freed them to Segregation, Jim crow, hate and racism even 100 years after slavery.

People just don't want to hear about it. It your only history you have ever known and whites want you to forget that. Because they want you still under that control of Willie Lynch. The generation change but the plan is still the same. To keep you fools and void of the truth.

What you seem to miss is the fact that we have a whole generation of African Americans in the U.S. who have never experienced slavery, segregation, or Jim Crow laws firsthand. Sure there is discrimination and racism, but you know what? White people don't hold the monopoly on racism -- Hispanics and African Americans are every bit as racist as whites. The other thing that you seem to miss is every time the past gets thrown back up in the face of the American public it causes racial division. Leaders like Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, and Louis Farrakhan make their living turning every little nit-noid issue into black vs. white. The idea isn't to "get over" slavery; the idea is to stop living in the past and work together for a better future where our respective races can live in harmony. As for the Jews who were victims of the Holocaust, Jewish women were raped repeatedly and Jewish men were tortured in every way imaginable, so their suffering was every bit as bad as slavery in the U.S., if not worse. And have you seen the German government making any amends or granting Jews equality? Furthermore, do you not realize that since its inception in 1949, Israel has been in a constant state of war with Arab groups on all sides that would love nothing more than to see every Jew in the region eliminated?

Amen to that!

That is not my original thoughts, about your comments, but giving it a second look I am reminded of my people's plight, in many ways worse than yours are today, and I understand the frustrated feeling you have. Being vocal against ANY injustice should be everyone's obligation to right wrongs created by a society, especially if that society puts up with more of the same, even from a small faction still festering in spite of court orders.

It is being used and abused from some blacks . They weren't the slaves and I doubt that their ancestors were either , but , they whine about their ancestors treatment of slavery . It is now a part of history , and history doesn't repeat it self . So ,yes , it was an atrocity and yes , it was unfair , BUT, there is NOTHING we can do but to continue to move forward and never let that happen again . Same goes with the treatment of the Jews, American Indians , and others . To bring this up time after time is like beating a dead horse . It does NOTHING

no it wouldn't but you just proved the whole point. we can get over slavery, your family has progressed and the rest of us can as well. what is it "they" are suppose to do now ? who wants to dwell there? that place hurts. i feel that slavery is such a hurtful place that all of us would like to move on from there,we don't want to get used to talking about it in fear of bringing that anger to the surface. we are a different ***** that the old *****. they had to bow and they had reason to fear the man today i think we would all rather die than allow that pain to be inflicted on us again .i know that no matter how screwed up our people look, our men would never allow that to happen again. maybe that's what we need a little s*** stirring to bring the Malcom out in us.

Benny ~ I agree and I Thank You

I'm sick of it. This mentality... it's killing me inside. All these people saying "get over it" and "forget about it",..... OOHHH!!! Has everyone conviniently forgotten this country has made money from slavery..... BLOOD, SWEAT AND TEARS!!!!!! The people who posted answers before me and the majority of the world seem to choose to sweep it all under the rug. It's digusting how we are expected to just "get over it". It's a part of history (proud or not) that should never be forgotten.

Because slavery (except wage slavery) has been abolished. What would it do to teach about every atrocities of the past except to create hatred? Are you a slave today? Are there any masters doing the things you mentioned? We call them criminals today and throw the people who do those sort of things in prision. If it were taught, at what age would you begin teaching it?

There are still a lot of people trying to kill Jews. The world hasn't gotten rid of the people who want to kill Jews just because they are Jews.

Because the civil war ended 140 years ago. That's ballpark about 5-6 generations! Are you still complaining about the wrongs done to your great-great-great grandfather? GET OVER IT. Lots of people have decided to overcome a poor start in life - poverty, having only one parent, poor education - and made a great deal of their lives. You can moan that it's not fair that you don't have the same things that a rich family has, or you can work hard and earn better things for yourself. Which do you think will get you further ahead in life?
