My friend just forwarded me that "Do a search for 'Complete failure' and see what comes up" thing. I mean, that's from like 2003!!! What do I even say? Is she just a little behind the times?

I 'hear' you; Maybe you're right; She is, 'just a little behind the times';But, does that really matter...she is your friend, you say.
So, which is more important...being a friend, or being right?

Sometimes, saying nothing works best. No one likes to be ignored, so, if you say nothing, you're forcing her to rethink what she said....it'll put the 'ball back in her court.'
Good luck!

the joke was new to her so she thought she'd share it with you. I have an acquaintance who, on work time, has sent me 56 emails recently with attachments, most are jokes....the simple way is either to just delete it. If you're on a list of names you don't want to be on you have every right to ask that your name be removed. If you're tired of getting a bunch of emails you don't read or don't want from someone you can always put them on "spam". If they want to know if you got the email or not you can easily say, "oh, it must have gotten in the spam bin by mistake...now the only way I can receive your emails is if you change your email address. (if they balk, or give excuses you can just say you like yur email box easy to read and would prefer they send you only letters and not junk mail).

Tell her she should have asked it as a question on Yahoo Answers. For the same amount of typing she could have annoyed millions of people (and some of them might not have heard it before).

delete it. if you already know it why waste space keeping it in your inbox? even if she is a great friend you don't have to forward it even if she did. if she brings it up just say you thought it was funny and change the subject.

Since your friend already "recycled" it, you can move it right to your trash folder.
