That was 10 years ago , why are we still talking about it ? It seems to me that whenever a "white " child is murdered you never stop hearing about it . Black kids get murdered all the time as well as kids of other races and no one seems to give a damn!

Status in society and race both count....
JonBenet, as well as others like Elizabeth Smart and Natalee Holloway had national media attention...they also happened to be wealthy and white.
...and to say the race of a person has nothing to do with it is ridiculous...I can't even think of ONE famous national case where a minority was missing/murdered...

this kind of excessive media attention to these "certain" cases is called "missing white woman syndrome"

...but generally, the media wants to make money...they do that by targetting their news to the majority (white people). And what kind of news do most white people want to watch? News about other white people (especially the fair/blonde-hair,blue eyed type)...not news about poor blacks, hispanics, etc. It is the truth.

Well of course if you've got a lead in any case, it's going to show up in the news. And this was a weird murder; a 6 year old beauty pagent girl who was killed in the basement of her home on christmas eve, which is why I think it gets a lot of news media.

VERY TRUE! I mean kids of all races get killed daily and we never hear of those cases! I mean I am sad that she got murdered and I wish it wouldnt have happened because no kid deserves to be hurt - esp killed. but why single this one case out and make a huge story about it over a 10 yr span? i dont understand! i am sick of hearing about it! just let her rest in peace! i bet if I got killed today no one would be talking about it 10 yrs from now - nationwide i mean! i am not a kid though, but i am just trying to make a point! it is awful that she was killed and all but get over it - people die everyday and they dont get talked about nation wide for 10 yrs! i just dont understand this country sometimes!

This was a high profile case. they blamed the parents for the murder for years. Dont you follow the news? We are talking about it because some looney decided to confess to the killing, so they are trying to see if his DNA matches and if he is the killer.
It has nothing to do with her being white. That is a totally racist comment! Grow up. Race has nothing to do with it. That little girls family went through hell.First they lose their daughter then they get accused for it. then the media follows them, and they have to move. Now, he loses his wife to cancer and has to relive the whole thing over again.....alone.

It is back in the news becuase thay have found the killer. Or atl east someone who has claimed to be the killer. there are some holes in the confession.

I do agree with you though. Anytime a rich, white, man/woman/or child is killed, its front page news. Anybody else may be lucky to get a blurb on the back page.

Because a person admitted to the murder, when killer kill they don't really tell and one, but he did, that's why the murder case is still on the news.
