I speak German. It's not really hard to learn but I think for your degree Spanish would be more useful. Spanish is super easy to learn. I tried French and it's just a pain because nothing sounds like the way its spelled.

Any second language is worth learning. But if you're looking for other considerations:
For population, pick Spanish first, French second, German third. South America is an emerging economy and power.
If you're thinking about a lingua franca for international bodies, *all* major organizations have English and French as their official languages. Some organizations have more than those two (the UN has six), but only those two are common to all such bodies.

I think spanish is the most easy to learn. two years is not much time to learn a language if you are doing it just in addition to a bunch of other things and just in order to fulfil some requirements. I had two years of french and two years of russian in school and as I haven't used it since I barely remember anything.
For biotech it doesn't really matter which additional language you learn since everything is in english anyway.

With all the illegals flooding this country, you may think about Spanish. It is the easiest foreign language to learn anyhow, and no way are most of the illegals going to try to learn English.

Spanish is the choice that I would make being as all the illegal immigrants will overrun the americans one day if the president doesn't do anything about it. Pretty soon they will make all of our students learn spanish as a manditory thing and not make all illegals students learn english.
