Vacccccuuuuummmmm it. The clorine will stay high for a little while, I'm assuming you just shocked the pool correct, to get rid of the green? What you gotta do now is vacuum, turn on your filter, pump, you gotta get the water running through the filter. I would also suggest adding some fresh water to the pool. Best Wishes

Three methods. You can wait it out, with regular filter cleanings or you can use a clarifier or filter aid.
The clarifier will work with any filter. It's slower than using filter aid and there will be a mess that you will have to vac up. Your water chemistry has to be bang on for it to work (total alkalinity 80-120, Ph 7.2-7.6, Cl 1.5-3.0).
The filter aid shoud be used on a sand filter only. It temproarily turns a sand filter into a much more efficient one, trapping particles that it normally wouldn't. The downside is that you will have to watch the pressure like a hawk and backwash when it climbs 8 psi over normal and repeat the process until the pool is clear. It's a really quick way to clear the pool, if your water is balanced.
In any event, don't worry about the high chlorine reading at the moment, but keep the total alkalinity and Ph in range. It will clear eventually.

We had the same problem so we drained the pool and put fresh water in it. I think that 4-6 week old water is not healthy to swim in even though you put chlorine in it.

I just use chlorine tablets in my pool.
its perfectly clear.

also, get some of those 6-way test strips.
to make sure the chemical levels are balanced.

You need to keep your filters clean as well. And make sure they have enough capacity to filter YOUR pool.

You can also use a water clarifier. I use GLB brand that I get at Walmart.
