You have injured your coccyx, which is a small but quite important bone at the end of your vertebral column. Whether it is actually fractured or not is somewhat irrelevant. I have done this twice, and the second time, actually had it xrayed. (interestingly the first time I broke it it grew back crooked, the second fracture actually straightened it). What is so painful is the fact that many of the muscles that constitute the pelvic floor are actually attached to it. You will have this pain for several weeks if not months. You will want to get a "donut" pillow at the pharmacy or health equipment store to help when sitting.

To avoid further discomforts associated with this you will want to dramatically increase your fiber intake, and right away. Since the sphincter muscles are part of the picture, they will not want to cooperate, and you WILL get severely constipated unless you address this right away, and then it is MORE painful when you finally are able to defecate.

If you are sexually active, you will notice you are not as interested in sex at this time, as it would be pretty darned painful.

The first couple of weeks are the worst, and even up to two months later, you may be sitting calmly and the entire pelvic floor goes into sudden and painful spasm. This too shall pass, but I remember actually shrieking when that happened.

There is not much a doctor can do about this situation except maybe give you pain pills, but Advil would probably be safer, and does help some.

I broke it the first time at age 12, jumped off a spillway on a dare onto concrete. The second time was at age 32, water skiing, fell and hit the ski.

You have my condolences, but eventually it will heal and you will have a story to tell your grandchildren.

If you go to the doctor and they find that it is fractured or broken what can they really do about it? It's not like they can put a cast it, lol! Just do some research online about what to do for a broken tailbone. Take it easy and take a good OTC pain med. I have tons of Lortabs left over from having a baby and having a wisdom tooth pulled. If it were legal I'd be happy to share. I know that's painful, happened to my best friend in high school.

Doctor is the option and I'll tell you why. They need to do an xray to see if you broke the end piece of the tailbone off. If that's the case, it can have neurological effects on your lower back and you could need surgery. If not and it's either badly bruised or fractured, then all they can do is give you pain meds until it heals. Not like you can wear a cast!

First figure out for sure, is it your lower back, around the level of your pelvis, or actually the tailbone area right above the start of the crack of your a**. If it's the second, don't bother with going to the doctor. what? you think they can splint that, they don't do anything cept say "yep it's broke heres an inflated tube to sit on, it doesn't do anything just makes you feel like we're doing something. Try sleeping on your stomache with a body pillow proping one side of you up." If it's your back though, go to the doctor.

I cracked my tailbone roller skating years ago. It was the worst pain ever. There was just a tiny bruise on the site, but , oh my gosh, no way to sit, stand, lay down or anything without horrible pain. There's nothing wrong with seeing a doctor, for pete's sake. But nothing can be done for it, you just have to give it time to heal up. Pain meds and heat pads, buddy.

I did this as a young girl. I jumped from a swing and my feet went out from under me and I landed on a rock (tailbone on it).

Doctor gave me a donut pillow to sit on, advil to take for the pain, and told me to take it easy. And even if it did break, the doctor's can't bandage it up so they'll just tell you to figure out the most comfortable place to sit / lie down and relax.

I doubt you broke it, more than likely you bruised the bone itself. Will hurt for a few weeks. Take advil for the pain and inflammation - trust me it works.

Well if it is anyone of the things you say a doctor cannot fix the problem. The most he would do is take an X-ray tell you if it is broken or not. That's it except give you medicine for pain

It is possible you fractured your tail bone, ice it 20 minutes several times a day, only thing doctors can do for it is give you pain medication.
