This questioning or anxiety regarding the dark, or sense of danger is quite common, and even natural to some extent. But if it moves beyond a thought or sense of apprehension after the light is turned on, then it moves into a bit of paranoia... and this comes from a memory.. either remembered from this life or from another life.
Fear is not something one can turn on and off, but is triggered whenever you enter an environment or situation that is similar to a memory, either actual, seen, or imagined. Perhaps the best way to deal with a reoccurring fear is to realize that it is your MIND warning you of a possible danger... the key is "possible". Just be with the thought or feeling, and turn on the light and check things out.... then let it go.
It helps in frightening times to remember that you are a Soul, and your Soul cannot be harmed. The very worst that can occur is that you might be killed... and reborn to continue in a new life. That's the worst case scenario... so, realize this seeming reality is actually a play... and your Soul is the observer... and it cannot be harmed.

There is nothing wrong with being aware, just don't be afraid. And......do you have a plan as to what to do if anyone IS there?
I liked Jen-ee-fur's idea about leaving the $20 right in the hallway where someone would pick it up, altho I might leave it on the floor where it looks like it had been dropped. Then if the money is gone - do not enter the house. Go get help.
Also - sometimes our instincts are correct. If you really feel someone is watching you start paying more attention to what is going on around you in other areas of your life and see if something seems "off." Always trust your instincts - they will not betray you.

do you live alone? Do you have a dog?
I think it's normal, I would check the house too. The only other suggestion is to put in an alarm?
Sometimes, when I get out of the car and go into a store, I check the car to make sure no one is in the back seat.
I guess we all have our fears. You might eventually stop worrying so much, but if it really bothers you, get a dog or get an alarm.
Good luck.

What you are doing is fine. Just cut all the lights on to help calm your fears. You know you locked the doors, so if they're still locked and theirs no windows broken, then you know the house is still empty. Just reassure yourself anyway possible and you will feel better afterwards. Good Luck!

i used to have the same problem... it was always me just psyching myself out...
i think that there is a certain amount of fear that is good, that makes us cautious, but i think this type of fear is more in our minds than it is an actual threat of harm...
i heard on a tv show once that if before leaving your house you put a twenty somewhere really obvious (like on a table), its a quick way to tell when you get home whether or not someone has broken in, as somebody breaking in would take the easy money...

The issue is not the practice...which by itself can be viewed as only being cautious. It is like the person who washes their hands...hand washing is a good thing...compulsive hand washing is not.....what is going on inside on all levels related to fear vs. caution is the key thought..................do you think your fear is a compulsion or a caution ?
