Do you mean the mass extinction of the dinosaurs? Most believe it was due to a massive cometary/meteoric impact on the earth, somewhere near Yucatan, which caused a catastrophic change in the global climate.

There have been many worldwide catastrophes. There are
like 5 known impact sites from either a comet or large body
from space, (asteroid). These cause Ice Ages.

The extinction of what? Lots of things have gone extinct. Wooly Mammoths, dinosaurs, dire wolves, giant Irish deer, the bird of terror, the dodo bird, pygmy elephants... Be more specific.
