Yes, a female avatar (well, actually probably any avatar, if you're into that sort of thing) can be "pregnant."
It's not really built into the rules of the "game" though, like it would be built into the Sims or a real VR simulator. You don't even have to have "nookie" in order to become preggers.
Rather, you can buy maternity clothes for your avatar, as well as "pregnant" body shapes that you just swap out at whatever pace you want your pregnancy to proceed. Your pregnancy thus could last as long as you wanted it to.
When you are ready to 'give birth,' you simply swap your shape back to normal and carry around a "baby" object that you have bought or made yourself. There are computer scripts attached to the baby that makes it act like a baby, but it is not actually a player, it is just a computer object that is animated.
So basically other SL players create maternity clothes, pregnant shapes, and baby objects that you can purchase and "simulate" pregnancy with.
A player could agree to be the "child" in some pre-arranged family, so their avatar will look like a kid while the other two players are playing the parents. So the mom would stop using the baby object, and the new player would "take over" using a child-like avatar.
