Q: Can you sneeze with your eyes open?

A: Some people can sneeze with their eyes open and some people can’t. Sneezing is a reflex and so is closing our eyes. We have no control over whether or not we close our eyes when we sneeze. Some people don’t have reflex, so when they sneeze then their eyes won’t close. Some people try to close their eyes so when they sneeze their eyes won’t pop out. Your eyes don’t really pop out. People without the reflex to sneeze with their eyes open can try to train themselves to sneeze with their eyes open. One good way to do this is if when you sneeze you hold your eyes open.

it is a total URBAN LEGEND that your eyes would fall out of your head. Come on people, are you really that gullible? That's not true in the least. Closing your eyes is part of an autonomic nervous system reflex cascade which is initiated during sneezing.

Don't be ridiculous people... eyes popping out of your head? Come on... If there was enough pressure to actually push your eye out of the socket (which there isn't, as many muscles and fibrous tissue holds it in place), if a sneeze generated THAT much pressure, you actually think a piece of skin as weak and thin as your eyelid could stop it?

Urban Legends > True science it would seem

Yep, the body is smarter than we are/ the eyes aren't fixed in very firmly - if you don't blink for long enough your eye ball can fall out, so if you were to sneeze with your eyes open/ your eyes would pop out of your skull because of the force of the sneeze. Its a natural defense mechanism.

That is a built in feature so your eyeballs don't fall out. next time you need to sneeze try looking up at a light bulb and see what happens.

It's a self defence mechanism, the eyes will pop out because of the pressure.
