I'm pretty sure it's coming from the wall... Anthropology kinda sounded like study of insects so I'm like, "whatever" and just put the question there..

Anthropology is the study of humans.

It could be the house just settling, insects, a squirrel/bird/bat in the attic, loose shingle.

It sounds like what you have is an infestation of Old House Borer. This is the right time of year for you to be hearing them. Take immediate action if you can. GET YOUR HOUSE TENTED. Don't let someone give you a bunch of garbage that they can come in and spot treat. You will be wasting your money!!!
Do yourself a favor and Google "old house borers" to get a complete list. Just a few are included.

Your Welcome!

anthropology is basically the study of people, all times and all places..

houses tend to 'settle' during the nighttime when its colder out... this can cause noises like the ones you are talking about...
