It seems the media looooves to interview celebs on political issues. But what makes their opinions so important? Is it a prerequisite to study foreign affairs to acting in Hollywood?

The only people who take celebrity opinions very seriously are the young or the very uninformed. That's not to say celebrities can not have valid or even intelligent opinions, it's just that there is nothing that makes their statements carry more weight than any other non-expert out there.

I think the main reason the media interviews celebs on politics is not because they think the celebs have something valuable to say, but because the interviewer is hoping they will say something controversial. That means higher ratings.

Celebs are a part of the media.

Like the Navy is a branch of the Military.
Hollywood celebs are a branch of the Media!

They are full of self importance because they have a voice that is heard in more places, and are a favorite of so many mindless idiots, that don't have anything better to do than follow them around in the tabloids, and eat bon bons.

Think of it this way say you or I call the san Francisco Chronicle, we want to make a statement, to boost our career at the local hardware store, about how the war in Iraq was justifide. They would probably not send a reporter. (unless you were gay and didn't support the war)

However if you were Oh I don't know hmmmm whose a has been ummm ok Barbara Striesand, (just an example) it could be lindsay lohan, Then do you think they would send a reporter? Of course, why? because even a liberal RAG like the San FranSiko Crapsicle wants to sell news papers....it sells!

The media interviews them because they really think we give a crap. Same reason they go on and on about Tom Cruise. Celebs have made themselves sooooo important in their own minds that they believe it too. It must be a very isolated community for them to be that far out of the loop. I gotta wonder if they every talk to real people (the celebs). They seem to have an "everybody thinks so" attitude about life. I wish they would all just shut up and make a movie. You're an actor, for God's sake. Not a Political science teacher.

The media loves celebs anyway. Their opinion is just that - an opinion like yours and mine. What makes you think their opinion isn't intelligent?

How insane is it for them to speak out on political issues !! There's several that have turned me against watching them on anything...movies, talk shows, TV....it's pretty bad business on their part... in MY opinion !!! I don't not watch them because they're dems, but because they use their position to sway the public to their side......I choose to sway the other way...that's the only thing I can "came back with" since the media doesn't want my opinion !!! I use my influence on my kids, and I've done very well in educating them about the evil dems !!!! ha !!

Because most people are sheep. Celebrities get into politics because they have too much money, to little actual work, too many "yes" men and behind kissers telling them constantly how wonderful they are. But when they open their mouths its pretty obvious their IQ is just slightly more than that of a turnip.

They want to feel important.

If someone is a celeb, they must be right. After all, they are on TV.

If they watched celeb jeopardy they would noticed how the clues need to be dumbed down to make them look smarter then the rest of us.

Well, they are role models of many people. (not me though, they are stupid!) They have opinions about politics. So I guess that most people want to hear the opinions of their "role models" Also, they have clout due to their popularity and they want to convey the message of their party. If you want my opinion, I think they are stupid people who can act. I would never trust one about politics. However, they have a right to express their opinions, and so, they can.

Probably because in recent decades a lot of actors have been to university. They may get degrees in "acting" and "fine arts", but you don't get a BA unless you take a well-rounded set of classes.
