I will be using it to build dollhouses and dollhouse furniture, and I need a tool that can cut wood up to 3/8" thick and that can cut in the middle of the wood. I'm not at all familiar with power tools and have no idea what attachments, if any, would be necessary for this type of job.

For My R/C Airplanes I use a Variable speed dremel with a flexshaft. That in conjunction with the router base are perfect for 1/4 inch birch plywood. (I have also used it to carve 1inch oak planking. I would have to stay away from the cordless / Rechargeable's as they dont have that great of a usable life. maby an hour or so.

Personally I'd invest a bit into a "ROTO ZIP" tool. It's more substantial, hand held, can be effective in details to a degree, and won't be as likely to be ineffective on those larger cutting issues.

I'd have both tools. I would stay away from Craftsman, B&D, or any off brand. Certainly the investment in the various bits is as important as the tool itself, but my rational for owning both pieces of equipment is to save wear and tear on the smaller of the two.

No. Illegal. If you are in the United States tell your friend to contact her state department of labor. I would also consider speaking to an employment lawyer. Now. Let me advise you if she or he is an hourly employee they can cut their hours as part of the light duty accomodation. Wages could not be cut back though if they are still working the same hours regardless if they are on light duty.

I agree - stay away from cordless, they lack in horsepower and battery life, I like the flex shaft with variable speed peddle for control, you can buy accesory box with variety of buts to try and use what works for you.

I would recommend the drill bit. They offer these in many different styles.
