I live in England and have been used to having muslim friends from pakistan, bangladesh etc. in the last year there has been increasing tensions between muslims and the rest of the population. but i want to reassure muslims in britain that not all of us are crazy crackpot fools who support the 'war on terror' and blair and bush. how can we do this and save the multiculturalism in britain that used to work so well (in my area anyway)?

Are you aware that it is possible to be white, British and Muslim? I do not practice any religion any more, having seen what I can only describe as double standards, in both Christianity and Islam. It remains a fact though, that the laws and ethics of the UK are fundamentally Christian based, and most people in the UK are happy to get along with anyone else regardless of race, colour or creed. I really do feel though that it doesn't help when we hear Muslims telling us that the way others do things is not acceptable, be it the way someone dresses or the way they live. I appreciate that it is the minority that are like that, but unfortunately it is that minority that are very vociferous and cause problems for the majority who live and let live. I am quite sure that if that minority was to spend some time in Saudi Arabia they would appreciate the freedoms that they have in the UK, including the right to practice their religion. Having worked there I know how people are treated by the Mutawa, how white non-Saudis are treated as second class citizens, and how Asians are down to third class. Had I been seen in public with a Bible or any religious book pertaining to anything but Islam I could expect to be beaten and thrown out of the country. To finally answer your question, perhaps the good majority could put pressure on that minority I talked about, and in short get them to put up or shut up.

The problem has only risen to this level since Tony Blair and his New Labour cornies created their brand of "muticulturalism" in the UK.

This bunch of nutcases [the Labour Party] have set in motion the etremism in this country with their policies at home & abroad.

Yesterday, Ruth Kelly, Labour`s Commuities Scy, warned that muticulturalism might not be such a brilliant idea after all. Yet they were the ones who set it up.

Have a look in today`s Daily Express for an indepth article on the matter.

Dont overdo multiculturalism. Those who are there in yr country are there on their free will. No one forced them to be in Britain. While each community will have its own unique culture, ultimately it cannot be at cross purposes with the rest of the country.

And yes, find a way to get rid of Blair fast! How did u guys vote for him again?

Crownose has said it like it needs saying.

The Muslims that came ( or come) to Britain come either to live their lives there or they come as a vanguard to prepare the country for invasion.

The best way is for those who intend to become Britains to ferret out those who have ulterior plans for the conquest of Britain. Who best can find the culprits than the loyal British Muslims who would be fighting for their country.

If the British Muslims will not help find those who intend to harm Britain than they become suspects and can be viewed as traitors

They are in Britain as British not as Muslims..

Why should we have to have multiculturalism? I don't want it and I don't know anyone in my area who does. We are losing our identity and it's sad. Nothing can really be done now though as there have been too many immigrants here who have reproduced and now have 'British' children. In answer to your question though, the ideal situation would be to stop all future immigration and send back all the illegal ones. That and stop creating more councils for the Muslims and stop building mosques for them left right and centre. If Muslims have so much to complain about, then the ones who complain should be sent back to where they came from, in the cases of the 'British' ones, send them back to where their parents came from.

Muslims who want to live under Islamic Sharia law were told on
Wednesday to get out of Australia, as the government targeted
radicals in a bid to head off potential terror attacks.

A day after a group of mainstream Muslim leaders pledged loyalty to
Australia at a special meeting with Prime Minister John Howard, he
and his ministers made it clear that extremists would face a crack down.

Treasurer Peter Costello, seen as heir apparent to Howard, hinted
that some radical clerics could be asked to leave the country if
they did not accept that Australia was a secular state and its laws were made by
parliament.

"If those are not your values, if you want a country which has Sharia law
or a theocratic state, then Australia is not for you," he said on national television.

"I'd be saying to clerics who are teaching that there are two laws
governing people in Australia, one the Australian law and another
the Islamic law, that is false. If you can't agree with parliamentary law,

independent courts, democracy, and would prefer Sharia law and have

the opportunity to go to another country, which practices it,

perhaps, then, that's a better option," Costello said.

Asked whether he meant radical clerics would be forced to leave, he
said those with dual citizenship could possibly be asked to move to
the other country.

Education Minister Brendan Nelson later told reporters that Muslims
who did not want to accept local values should "clear off".

"Basically, people who don't want to be Australians, and they don't
want to live by Australian values and understand them, well then
they can basically clear off,"he said.

Separately, Howard angered some Australian Muslims on Wednesday by
saying he supported spy agency's monitoring the nation's mosques.

AMERICA , Britain and Canada...ARE YOU LISTENING?

We will accept your beliefs and will not question why, all we ask
is that you accept ours and live in harmony and peaceful enjoyment with us.
If the Southern Cross offends you, or you don't like " A Fair Go",
then you should seriously consider a move to another part of this planet.
We are happy with our culture and have no desire to change, and we
really don't care how you did things where you came from. By all means
keep your culture but do not force it on others.

This is OUR COUNTRY, OUR LAND, and OUR LIFESTYLE, and we will allow
you every opportunity to enjoy all this.

But once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about Our
Flag, Our Pledge, Our Christian beliefs, or Our Way of Life, I highly encourage
you take advantage of one other great Australian freedom, "THE RIGHT TO
LEAVE".

If you aren't happy here then LEAVE. We didn't force you to come here.
You asked to be here. So accept the country YOU accepted.
Pretty easy really, when you think about it. I figure if we all keep passing
this to our friends (and enemies) it will also, sooner or later get
back to the complainers, lets all try, please.

This is all mad politics. In a generation or two it will change. However, relations can be tightend by simple things such as drinking tea together, playing football...etc.

I really think the muslims should encourage native Brits to attend the mosques just to see what Islam is all about. Not to convert or anything just to see that they really mean peace.

this war on terrorism is all madness. I guarantee you "terrorism" will stop if foreign leaders stop interferring with other countries' goverments, natural resources.

if a minority are to be not only tolerated and accepted but embraced as we have done they really should take it upon themselves to eliminate the fanatics that are hell bent on blowing up the very community that has accepted and supported them. I have some Muslim friends but make no bones about the fact that they are letting the extremists alienate them and have no sympathy for muslim leaders when they whinge on TV about being 'victimised' when their religion, places of worship, religious schools, community groups, and police liason groups are funded by taxpayers UK wide

Well said, I hope they think that the government is not people, I have friends and as I can feel, they feel the same way we feel. I'm not religious myself but this hasn't been a problem among us. When we are around, nobody remembers what's out there.
I join to you.

By giving each other respect. This is given not because of a persons colour or faith or culture it should be displayed as manners are until someone shows that as an individual they do not deserve it.
